PRY SCHOOL HEAD TEACHERS HAIL ONI’S DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORTS

The President of Conference of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (COPHSON) comrade  Mahmmud Lawal has commended the Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni for facilitating both human and infrastructural development of the State Education sector.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available to journalists today, that Comrade Lawal while speaking during a visit of the national executives of the association to the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, said the Oni administration was pivoting an educational programme that could be a benchmark for developing the Nigeria educational system, noting the sector has recorded unprecedented achievements since the Governor’s assumption of office.
Comrade Lawal affirmed that achievements such as the School Feeding Programme, the School Enterprise Programme, procurement of furniture for all schools in the State and clearing of the backlog of gratuities of retired teachers since 1993 has made the Sate a leading light in the country.
“I must confess that the sights of the projects I saw while coming here was quite fascinating. I want to commend the Ekiti State Governor for taking education to this enviable level. He is a teacher-friendly Governor, the first to approve the TSS in the whole of the South west,’’ Lawal said.
He also applauded the state government for the erection of modern storey buildings in all public schools in the State adding that the gesture would boost the sense of dignity of teachers and pupils alike.
In his response, Governor Oni said his administration was poised to implement more programmes in the education sector to ensure the state takes its pride of place in the country.
He said the present administration would ensure that discipline and dignity are restored to the sector so that the teaching sector could thrive once again.
“Schools used to be more beautiful than individual homes in those days. But unfortunately some people came and run down the system. Now we want to restore that dignity. Apart from the beautiful buildings, we would also ensure there is a competition among public schools in the state that would motivate them towards developing beautiful landscapes.’’
“When we came in, pupils were sitting on a bare floor. Now we have stopped that. We will also ensure that there in no dilapidated buildings in all Ekiti schools soon.  Nationwide, let us thrive to take education to a higher level. God is going to judge us by the standard of the service we give to others,’’ the governor said.
