The Ekiti Justice and Equity Movement (EJEM) has urged the impeached former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose to steer clear of the State politics for now, saying that he should rather face the murder and fraud charges hanging on his neck. Rising from its meeting in Ado-Ekiti today, EJEM, in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Comrade Ebenezer Olaleye described the formation of a parallel executive council of the PDP by Fayose as an exercise in futility, adding that the former governor adding that the former governor cannot belong to four political parties at a time.
“We have been following with keen interest the present political situation in Ekiti State, occasioned by the desperate bid of Mr. Ayodele Fayose to maintain relevance in the state political scheme, despite that he has various cases of murder and fraud hanging on his neck.
“It is our position that the former governor must be told in clear term now that he is not needed as far as the state’s politics is concern. This is because Ekiti people cannot afford to go through all the harrowing experiences they were made to go through during the three and half years of Fayose’s ignoble rule.
“It is on record that within three and half years of Fayose’s regime, several indigenes of Ekiti were murdered in cold blood by people suspected to be his (Fayose) agent. Several others suffered harassment, intimidation and brutalization during this period.
“Those who suffered various degrees of brutalization under Fayose include Chief Remi Oguntuase whose Petrol Station was vandalized, Senator Bode Olowoporoku who had his building pulled down for a road dualisation project that never was, Governor Segun Oni who was dragged on the road for several kilometers, Chief Ojo Falegan, Chief Idowu Odeyemi whose car was torched, Senator Ayo Arise and other Alliance for Democracy (AD) leaders whose vehicles were vandalized and millions of naira carted away during the May 28, 2005 Mugbagba, Ado-Ekiti fracas orchestrated and led by Fayose, Sikiru Babalola who was brutalized right inside a church, former governors Bola Tinubu, Niyi Adebayo and segun Osoba who were detained for hours by gun wielding soldiers at Iyin-Ekiti, Adebayos country home, Taiye Fasubaa who narrowly escaped death, the Attah of Aiyede-Ekiti, Oba Orisagbemi who was bundled out of his palace and taken by force to Ado-Ekiti, where he was detained with criminals and Alhaji I. M. Bello, Ado-Ekiti AD chairman who was beaten black and blue and his mouth stuffed with sand.
“It is also on record that Fayose extended his inhuman treatment to his siblings. Emmanuel and Bimpe Sorinolu are living witnesses to this. Emmanuel was allegedly beaten to stupor on the order of Fayose, his own elder brother and Emmanuel had to be spirited out of Ado when death was lurking around him. In the case of Bimpe, she had to cry to the whole world in an interview published by a Lagos based magazine, saying ‘My brother is cruel and wicked.’ The impasses cost Bimpe her matrimonial home.”
Describing Fayose’s claim that he opted to declare total war on the State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni because the governor refused to order the unconditional release of his aides that are standing trial for the alleged murder of Tunde Omojola and Dr. Ayo Daramola as ridiculous, EJEM said; “How on earth can any sane mind be saying this and with all boldness too?
“People who are standing trial for alleged murder of innocent Ekiti sons should be released as part of party reconciliation? We want to believe that there is now more to how Fayose’s mind works than meet the eye.”
While calling for the arrest and immediate trial of Fayose for his alleged involvement in the murder of Tunde Omojola and Dr. Ayo Daramola, EJEM urged security agents in the state to remain vigilant as the former governor now appears like a mentally imbalance person who is capable of doing anything, including the impossible.
