Home About Ekiti Ministries Exco Members Governor FFTF Feedback Contact US Ekiti News | "The government of Ekiti State seems to have surmounted all political impediments and learnt how to avoid trivial issues which have constituted lot of distractions for his "administration". "What are you thinking?" "He looks focused in recent times and give a picture of a leader with tremendous conscience and compassion for his people." "Time will tell". "That’s true but I think his list of achievements coupled with invitation to critics, skeptics and concerned people to critically assess his works speaks volume." "Don’t be carried away by what these politicians say and sponsor in the media." "You mean they could be deceptive?" "Yes, that is why you need to be careful the way you run your mouth." "Run my mouth?" "Of course, you have to be critical of things you read and apply wisdom in your judgment." "Don’t be abusive and let’s face it, this young man has listed among his achievements provision of social and health infrastructures, renovation of the state stadium, purchase of bus for the state university, cars for judges and top government officials, regular payment of salaries and pension to mention a few I can remember." "And so what? These developments are cosmetic and still below expectations." "I don’t see your point, do you mean regular payment of workers salary is also cosmetic?"
"yes. Is it not the responsibility of the government to pay workers salary?" "Definitely, but you should remember these workers were owed months of salary by the previous administrations." "Forget about those people, they are not responsible." "So by implication, you mean the present administration is responsible." "That’s right but I wish the government could put more efforts on programs that would directly impact the life of down-trodden masses of Ekiti." "Don’t you think his current programs reflect that?" "Not really but I think he has done well in striving to provide good road network in Ekiti. The procurement of drugs, purchase of ambulances for the hospitals and provision of eye glasses for the needy are also commendable but I hope the glasses were not only given to People Democratic Party (PDP) card carrying members in the state." "I wont deny that but we still need to challenge and encourage him to do more. I particularly want to see the state developed industrially." "That reminds me of the poultry project." "Poultry Project?" "Yes "That could be a good one." "I don’t think sp." "Why?" "The project has being subject of controversy from the word go." "What is the thrust of the matter?" "First, the choice of the contractor who happens to be the governor’s childhood friend. This has raised people’s consciousness to a possible seam and a means of bleeding the state. Inconsistencies in the total cost of the project have also been mentioned. They say the way and manner the project is being handled is shoddy." "Na wa o! Could those allegations be true?" "I don’t know "whatever, I think choice of the contractor should not necessarily be an issue provided it is competent, transparent and committed to the project." "I thought as much but it will be necessary for the Fayose government to address all issues raise and provide evidence of work done to disprove erroneous claims." "That’s true because I learnt there is a petition pending before the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) regarding the project." "Really?" "Yes, It is filed by a group called Ekiti Justice and Equity Movement." "I sometimes question the genuiness of such petitions and the motives behind them. Notwithstanding, that may inform the government of the need to address the controversy and consequently make greater efforts to showcase evidences of their works." "Do you really agree tat Fayose government is out to destroy the legacies of the previous administration." "What do you mean?" "You know the Alliance for Democracy (AD) chieftains in the state have sometimes mentioned this in series of their outbursts." "Which legacy? Nonsense, did they leave any behind? Oh! May be the uncompleted projects, debt and poor state of infrastructure or what do you think?" "Hey, don’t be too harsh and myopic, they know what they are talking about." What do you they are talking about?" The 2-year old state university college of medicine abolished by Fayose is a very good example." I can see your point but I think there is a reason for it." "What sensible reason could justify the abolition?" "Funding according to the governor." "Which funding?" "The one Academic Staff University Union (ASUU) has been battling with the federal government forever." "But the governor mentioned the state internal generated revenue has increased threefold and I know the federal allocation has been huge in recent times, how come the issue of funding again? I see all these as inconsistencies." "if the governor is sincere about the issue of funding, I think it is truly an issue to be considered. I gathered the state university is currently under funded and most of the departments are at verge of losing their accreditation. Why not ensure the standard of the one on ground rather than creating additional burden?" " I partially subscribe to that but I will tell you it is still a misplaced priority. I wonder why the governor did not cancel the proposed school to be established in his village to further demonstrate his concern on this issue of funding." "The governor will be in best position to answer that but I guess he may be thinking the maintenance of such school will be less expensive." "How?" "I don’t know, I’m only guessing." "Okay wait, why even the choice of his village?" "You know they say charity begins at home, that may have influenced his decision." That’s funny but true." |
Behold! Mr. Image Maker Culled from “National Interest” NewspaperFor Sir Kayode Otitoju, the man who is overseeing the image matters of Ekiti State Government, this is indeed the most interesting period. Since he took up the appointment as the State Commissioner for Information, Sports, Youth and Social Development, the state which many believe has the history of being the second most controversial after Ngige’s Anambra in this administration, has been improving. Otitoju has been using all avenue to attest to his competence and pragmatism. At this crucial moment of president’s visit to the state, the man has rolled out his arsenal and he is the preparation for the president’s visit to do a good public relations effort for the state. On Monday this week, when he featured on AM Express of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Sir Otitoju spoke glowingly of his Governor, Ayo Fayose, the state government and several completed projects the President would be commissioning on getting to Ekiti. He particularly singled out projects on health care delivery, education, works and transport, infrastructural development and information, culture, sports and social development. One other interesting thing here was how the man drove to Ekiti to parley with journalists after the programme to the extent that many were asking if actually he went for the TV interview in Lagos. It still baffles people’s imagination how this 1980 University of Ibadan geography graduate understands the dos and don’ts of PR having spent all his career years in the transportation industry; first in Nigeria Ports Authority and later as an auto dealer. To those who wonder why, it may be necessary to add this gist: In 1975, then as a secondary school student in popular Annunciation School, Ikere – Ekiti, the young Kayode Ottitoju was made the school chapel prefect. In 1978/79 session, he was the director of socials of the nation’s premier university, University of Ibadan Geography Student’s Association. He capped it up with the post of Public Relations Officer of the Student’s union. Between 1985 and 1988, Sir Otitoju was the National Publicity Secretary of the Chartered Institute of transport (Nigeria Section) and between1999 and 2001, he was the National Publicity Secretary, University of Ibadan, Alumni Association. Those who know Otitoju from his secondary school days always say that he is a born PR man. His relationship with journalists and everybody in the State has also spoken volumes of how comfortable he is talking about his state and his governor. Within two weeks in office, he had known all the state correspondents and the organisations they represent. In fairness to Otitoju, the work he is doing has really changed things for the state because he is sincere about it. He will go to any extent to convince anybody that has a negative opinion about “Oga” as he used to refer to Fayose and explain one after the other the activities of his boss in office. Governor Fayose must have noticed this in him long ago when despite contrary opinions from different quarters, he chose to appoint Otitoju who comes from the rival party – Alliance for Democracy. |
