FAYOSE COMMISSIONS EKITI TRADE FAIR COMPLEX AT THE 16TH ODUA JOINT TRADE FAIR. Ekiti State Government would continue to provide an enabling environment for investors in the State in order to attract them and enhance the economic development of the State. Governor Ayodele Fayose gave this indication in Ado-ekiti on Monday December 6, 2004 during the official opening of the 16th Joint Odu’a Trade Fair hosted by Ekiti State. Dr. Fayose described the hosting of the fair as historic adding that it was the beginning of assured that the infrastructures at the complex would be well maintained assuring that more facilities including a 30 room hotel and recreation centre would be provided at the complex to ensure optional and efficient utilization of the centre.According to the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Industries, Cooperatives and Tourism, elder S.O. Kayode, Ekiti State had not been able to host this fair since the creation of the State due to unprepared and lack of the necessary infrastructure. However, when this administration came on board, the visionary, dynamic and business minded executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, pledge his total commitment to the provision and development of the infrastructure and hosting of the 16th Odua Joint Trade Fair, without failure. Being an international business tycoon before coming into gubernatorial office. The Chief Executive knows the importance and benefit derivable from commercial and economic summit of the type we are witnessing today. For this reason, he had not only approved the necessary funds, he personally monitored the progress of the construction work nearly on daily basis.The National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Chief John A. Odeyemi said in his address that the theme of this edition of the joint trade fair “Developing the non-oil sector of the Nigerian Economy through Science and Technology Education” is very apt given the calls that have been made from different quarters recently requesting for a review of the curricular in secondary and tertiary institutions. He as well urged the organizers of the fair to go a step further by organizing a Seminar on the theme to harness ideas and come out with recommendations that will be forwarded to Government at various levels on the need to refocus students to Science and Technology education, which will develop in them the spirit of invention and enterprise. Mr. Eddie O. Oguntonade, the President EKICCIMA and Chairman of the 16th Joint Trade Fair stated some of the achievements of EKICCIMA as follows:1. Securing an allocation of land from Government for the permanent Trade Fair Complex2. Introduction of Bee keeping Venture in Ekiti State3. Preparing the ground for the formation of Shippers Association, in Ekiti State. 4. Participation in the organization of all Odu’a Joint Trade Fair to promote the image of the State.5. And of course the persistent and successful struggle to bring the Odu’a Joint Trade Fair to the Ekiti.
