Market women in Ekiti State
have urged the state government to assign it important roles in the
collection of revenue for the government, adding that time has come for
private participation in revenue collection so as to shore up the
financial base of the government.

Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olatunji Odeyemi,
yesterday refuted rumours of a planned impeachment of the governor,
Engr. Segun Oni, saying it was a ruse to the peace currently being
enjoyed in the state.

An
Ado Ekiti High Court yesterday stopped the Ekiti State House of
Assembly from taking any step towards the dissolution of the caretaker
committees in the state 16 local councils. This
came seven days after the House of Assembly passed a resolution calling
on the State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni to dissolve the local government
caretaker committees.

Two
weeks after his petition challenging the election of Ekiti State
Governor, Engr. Segun Oni in the April 14, 2007 election, governorship
candidate of the Action Congress (AC), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, one of his
lawyers, Mr. Sulyman Babakebe, forensic expert, Mr. Adrian Forty and
others are facing arrest and possible prosecution over alleged forgery
and perjury.
