EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE SUPPORT FOR  EKCPRA

Ekiti State Government has restated its support for the Ekiti State Community-Based Poverty reduction Project (EKCPRA) in its efforts to alleviate poverty in the state.

The Special Adviser for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Akinbowale Omole stated this during a meeting with the General Manger of the Agency in his office in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Omole stated that the counterpart fund of Ekiti State to the Agency has been paid to assist the Agency to carry out its developmental projects across the State, stressing that the state would witness rapid development if extra governmental agencies play their collaborative roles.

The Special Adviser charged the organization to extend its activities to areas where government developmental projects have not been extended to in order to facilitate the socio-economic development of the state.

The General Manager of the Agency, Dr. Ayo Daramola pledged the agency’s support for the state government in its quest to move would be strengthened to bring the activities of the Agency to the people.

 

EKITI EXECUTIVE COUNCIL STARTS INFO. TECH. TRAINING.

As part of Governor Fayose's mission to promote and make Ekiti State a model for emulation and a pride for Nigerian States, an indoor Information Technology training has been arranged for the members of the State Executive Council. At the end of the training members will be able to use the computer and internet facilities for the enhancement of their duties.  A powerful Laptop computer was distributed for each member of the Executive council.  At the opening ceremony of the training programme, the Governor promised to extend such training to all Permanent Secretaries in the state.

 

ATIKU COMMENDS FAYOSE AT AFAO DAY

The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has commenced Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State for his developmental efforts in the State.

Alhaji Abubakar who gave the commendation at Afao-Ekiti during the Afao Day, 2004 celebration on Thursday described Governor Fayose as a good ambassador of the Ekiti people saying their welfare and development was paramount in his heart.

The Vice President congratulated the Alafao of Afao, Oba Joseph Ademilua and the entire citizenry of Afao-Ekiti on the occasion of the Afao Day and donated N2 million to the development of the community.

Speaking with newsmen at the Akure Airport, the Chairman of the Afao Day, 2004, governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State commended Governor Fayose for his passion and zeal for the development of Ekiti people.

Dr Saraki described the Afao Day 2004 as a positive step towards the development of the grassroots and congratulated Governor Fayose on the success of the occasion.

In the same vein, Governor Olagunsoye Oyilola of Osun State commended the good performance of Dr. Fayose in Ekiti State and urged him not to relent in his efforts.

Prince Oyinlola noted that no Government can adequately cater for all the needs of the people and stressed the need for community development initially.

He lauded the initiative of Governor Fayose for organizing the Afao Day in a very big way and urged others to emulate the enviable gesture in order to enhance grassroots development.

The Osun State Governor had earlier, at Afao Ekiti, donated N4 million to the Afao-Ekiti community in behalf of Governments of Kogi, Kwara, Osun and Oyo States.

Dignitries that graced the dual celebration of the launching of Feyi Fayose Trust Foundation and the afao Day 2004 include Governor Peter Odili of Rivers, Idris Ibrahim of Kogi, Bukola Saraki of Kwara, Ahamed Makarfi of Kaduna, Olagunsoye Oyilola of Osun and Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno States. Others are Vice President Atiku Abubarkar, wife of the president, Chief (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo, wife of the Vice President, Alhaja Aminat Titi Abubakar and wives of State Governors including Mrs Omolola Oyilola of Osun, Mrs Zainab Haruna of Adamawa, Mrs regina Akume of Benue, Chief (Mrs) Olufunke Daniel of Ogun, Mrs Saraki of Kwara and Mrs Toun Ajomale, the representative of Mrs Oluremi Tinubu of Lagos State.

The Deputy governor of Ekiti State, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, his Oyo State Counterpart, Chief Bayo Alao-Akala, the wife of Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Deaconess Aduke Aluko, the Minister of State for Power and Steel, Prof. Borishade and the Director-General of the News agency of Nigeria, Mr. Akin Oshuntokun among several others were also present at the occasion.

 

 

 EKITI PEOPLE TO ENJOY SOCIAL AMENITIES

The extension project of electric power supply from Ilesa, Osun State to Ekiti has been completed.

The Special Assistance to the Governor on Information, Mr. Kola Ajumobi disclosed this on Thursday while briefing pressmen on the resolutions of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Ajumobi said that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electricity and Communication, Hon. Kehinde Odebunmi informed the State Executive Council that the project has been completed and was awaiting the consent of the NEPA authorities from the Benin Zone before it could be test-run and commissioned for use.

The Special Assistant explained that the extension project would serve Irepodun/Ifelodun and Ekiti West Local Governments when commissioned.

Mr. Ajumobi who described the extension project as a temporary measure to boost power supply to Ekiti State hinted that the presidency has directed the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja to release money to the  contractor handling the 132 KVA substation project, which he said, was the ultimate and lasting solution to the electricity problem in the State.

The Governor’s spokeman also disclosed that the council has mandated the Commissioner of Works, Chief Dele Okeya to ensure that the SCC Nig. Limited, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the Aramoko-Ikogosi-Erinjiyan road returning to site soon.

We explained that the immediate past administration awarded the road contract in January 2003 and has paid about N200 million out of the N944 million contract sum.

Mr. Ajumobi who said that the contractor has abandoned the project stated Government’s interest in the completion of the project soon. The Special assistant on information hinted that governor Fayose has directed the State Ministry of works to construct bumps at the dangerous bends along Ado-Iyin road which was notoriously called “Akanasen” within 7 days to forestall further accident on the road..

Mr Ajumobi reported that State Council has approved the re-constructed State Boundary Commission under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Suveyor Abiodun Aluko.

Other members of the commission include the Secretary to the State Government, the Attorney-General and commissioner for Justice, the Special adviser on Land, Commissioner for Finance, the Surveyor-General of the State and two Senior Traditional Rulers and Samuel Ibidunmoye who would serve as secretary to the commission. 

According to Mr. Ajumobi, the Boundary commission was expected to work in conjunction with a Technical committee to ensure the resolution of inter and intra state boundary disputes among others.

The Governor’s spokesman hinted that the boundary dispute involving  Ekiti and kogi, and Ekiti and Osun States have been resolved, adding that they were awaiting the rectification of the National boundary Commission while dialogue was still being held to ensure the resolution of the dispute between Ekiti and Ondo States.

The disputed areas between Ekiti and ondo state include Ahan-Omuo-Oke, Agbe, Egbe Ekiti-Imesi Ekiti-Irnu Akoko, Emure Ekiti-Supare Akoko and Ikere Ekiti-Iju.
