UTILISE YOUR KNOWLEDGE-OBASANJO CHARGED EKITI PEOPLE(14/11/2006)

The President made the appeal during an interactive session with the people of the State on the second day of his visit at Bishop Adetiloye Hall, Trade Fair Complex in Ado-Ekiti
The president who attributed the poverty and backwardness of African countries and, indeed Nigeria, to the inability of the people to do the right thing at the right time, pointed out all these in his reaction to the address of the State Administrator, Brig. Gen. Tunji Olurin on the poverty in the State.
Earlier, Administrator Olurin had told President Obasanjo that there “is palpable poverty in Ekiti State and the prognosis is not particularly exciting because of the lack of policy and practical initiatives for empowerment and poverty eradication.” He noted that in the whole of the state there is no single industry except the UAC Spring Water Bottling Company at Ikogosi, adding that “farming for which the people are known has not developed above the primitive stage”.
But, President Obasanjo insisted that the people should look around their environment and exploit it for their own benefit. He further cited South Korea as an example of a country, which was at par with Nigeria at independence, but is now a generation ahead of us pointing out that the secret of their success was the ability to do the right thing at the right time.
Speaking on the moribund Ado-Ekiti Textile Mills, the president affirmed that it died because it was wrongly established, saying if the company had been established in an area close to its raw material, the company would have continued to be in operation.
He, however, said that any African country that got its bearing right and was doing the right thing in the best interest of its people, though initially might have to contend with opposition from the advanced countries, would eventually scale through the difficulties if it succeeded in what it had done.
The President appealed to Gen. Olurin to do a follow-up on the ongoing 132KVA power station sited in the State if he wanted the power supply to be completed during his short tenure and charged people to cooperate with the administrator to achieve success during his tenure in the state.

SUSPENSION OF EKITI CJ: THE CJ AND FAYOSE REACTS (12/10/2006)
The Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice Bamisile has reacted to his suspension by the State House of Assembly citing Section 292 to buttress the fact that it is only the Governor acting in agreement with the two-third of the House that has the power to suspend him. He described his suspension as an "illegality which is not supported by the Constitution".
He also described the allegation of the N15 million scandal leveled against him as false, saying the "allegation was coming after how many months?" He denied pocketing the money saying he would never take a kobo from anybody in his life.
Justice Bamisile, while reacting to the allegation of involvement in procuring vehicles for panel members, said he could not accommodate them in his residence and was not expected to convey them in his official vehicle.  He said he had to take the step because the lawmakers were not around. Besides, he denied knowledge of the amount voted for the operation of the panel members, saying only the Chief Registrar could explain the budget for panel members.
On empanelling members who are allegedly government cronies and sympathisers, Justice Bamisile declared his readiness to remove any of them found wanting if people bring convincing proof to him. Justice Bamisile insisted that the House has no authority to query his selection of panel members. He said the House can invite him but "not on issues they don’t have jurisdiction upon". In his reaction to the House resolution that Justice Aladejana should act as the CJ and constitute a fresh panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against Fayose and Olujimi, he said he did not believe "another judge will take that risk".  Justice Bamisile noted "there cannot be two captains in the same ship".
Meanwhile, Governor Fayose yesterday described the suspension of Justice Bamisile as a "coup, which is no longer fashionable".  The Governor, who also described the suspension as a joke, directed Justice Bamisile to continue in office, saying every attempt to remove him would fail.  He also likened the move of the lawmakers to that of a "barking dog", saying their suspension of Justice Bamisile is unconstitutional as he (Fayose), remains the only person authorised by the Constitution to remove the Chief Judge.
The Governor equally maintained that the CJ is the only person vested with the constitutional powers to set up a panel to investigate his alleged gross misconduct. He urged him not to be afraid as his position as the CJ subsists.  Gov. Fayose also appealed to Justice Jide Aladejana whom the Assembly directed to constitute a fresh panel of seven persons not to allow himself to be used by people "who want to desecrate the Constitution".  He called on the people of the state and Nigerians to see the Ekiti impeachment drama as a "Liberation War" calling on all he has offended in the course of administering the state to sheathe their swords and forgive him.  He also urged the people to be patient and not to fight saying God that liberated the Israelites and made them passed through the Red Sea would see him through his on-going travails.

DON’T SET EKITI ON FIRE  - FAYOSE (05/10/06)
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, on Thursday, told members of the State House of Assembly not to set the State on fire through the subversion of the constitutional process.  Besides, the Governor also attributed his current travails to his humble background and the fact that he had no godfather within the political circle.
The lawmakers were said to have sneaked into Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Thursday while the Governor was addressing the Teachers who thronged the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium for the World Teachers Day, and sat for few minutes during which they reportedly mandated the Chief Judge, Justice Kayode Bamisile to constitute a panel, after which they hurriedly left the state for their unknown destination.
But Governor Fayose, while addressing the Teachers, reminded the legislators of the due process on the impeachment of a governor.        If they are going to remove a governor, there is a due process.  The due process says you must give me fourteen (14) days after serving the notice of impeachment.  The notice had just been served me two days ago (Tuesday).”
He decried the desperation and the calculated attempt of the lawmakers to forcefully remove him against the wishes of the ordinary people of the state and the spirit and letter of the Constitution.  “What is not right is not right.  I have just been told that any minute from now, the House will remove the Governor illegally.  The lawmakers should tread softly.  They should not set the state on fire.  They should not cause chaos in view of their calculated attempt to set themselves against the people they are representing.”
The Governor expressed his strong faith in God to see him these trying times, saying “God will not allow them.  The spirit of the innocent people, the Teachers, the Workers, Artisans, Market Women who had been suffering before I came will not allow them.  All the good things that God has used me to do in this State will frustrate their evil counsel.”
Fayose said he has been having all these problems from day one of his government owing to the circumstances of his emergence as governor and the fact that he had no big names behind him.  “Because I don’t have all the big names of this world behind me; because I am from a humble background and they don’t know how God managed to put me there in 2003, they have continued to wage war on my government
since I came.  But God will have mercy on me,” he said.
He commended the Teachers for their large turn-out which, according to him, was a demonstration of their support for his administration.
