Another historic milestone in the life of the Fayose administration and the education industry in Ekiti State was made on Tuesday 18th January 2005 when the Ministry of Education Annex was commissioned. The building will provide Office accommodation for officers in four departments of the Ministry of Education who hitherto have been cramped in various rooms in the Secretariat Complex. This is another testimony of the commitment of the administration to the provision of a conducive working environment for Civil Servants in the State. The Governor promised that the gesture will be sustained with greater tempo this year and implored the officers to make good use of the offices and ensure improved productivity and efficiency. Workers should be more dedicated, resourceful and above all desist from leaking official secret, he emphasized. Since the government came on board in May, 2003, it has made laudable achievements in the field of education. A few examples will suffice:(i) Procurement and distribution of instructional materials worth N119.0million to Public Secondary Schools in the State.(ii) Renovation of 16 Public Secondary Schools spread all over the State at a cost of N24.0million.(iii) Printing and distribution of N25 Million worth of continuous Assessment documents;(iv) Purchased 3 buses to enhance the monitoring and supervision of schools by the Inspectorate Department of the Ministry of Education.(v) Establishment of poultry farms in the University of Ado-Ekiti and College of EDUCATION, Ikere Ekiti, to boost protein intake amongst the Institution community and provide demonstration farms for teaching and research for students offering Agricultural Science in these institutions. (vi) Approval of upward review of bursary award to student in tertiary institutions from N1,000.00 to N2,000.00. (vii) Harmonization of teachers salaries grade level for many years.(viii) Construction of desks and chairs worth N40 million for students and pupils in Secondary and Primary Schools in the State. The distribution will commence tomorrow, Wednesday 19th January, 2005.(ix) Implementation of (through the payment of counterpart fund) the Universal Basic Education Programme in six focal Local Government Areas in the State.(x) Implementation of EKCCPRA Projects for the provision of potable water in both Primary and Secondary Schools in Ekiti State; for example Government Science College, Iyin, Government College, Ado-Ekiti, etc.(xi) Establishment of new Model Nursery/Primary Schools in the State.(xii) Regular payment of salaries and allowances of civil servants and teachers. (xiii) Boosting the morale of civil servants and teachers through motivation strategies such as promotion of civil servants and teachers in Ekiti State.(xiv) More than 12% upward review of feeding allowances of handicapped students at the Special Schools at Ido Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti.(xv) Disbursement of scholarship to deserving students of Higher Institution and Technical colleges.(xvi) Implementation of HIV/AIDs curriculum in Secondary School in Ekiti State. (xvii) Above all, outstanding performance of students in Internal and Public Examination. For example, in the analysis of May/June 2004 WASCE result, Ekiti State was in the 17th position among the 36 States of the Federation as against its 35th position in the same examination conducted in 2003. it is the policy of the State Government to attained, it shall remain there permanently.He called on Ekiti State indigenes at home and abroad to come on board and assist this administration in her giant stride to improve education delivery in Ekiti State by establishing more technical and vocational schools in the State so that our teeming school leavers could be trained in these schools to enable them to be self employed and employers of labour. All these will complement the efforts of the administration at bringing technical education to the door steps of all and sundry in this State. In her address, the State Commissioner for Education expressed appreciation for the interest taken by the Governor in the development of education in Ekiti State. She added that after the Education submit of 27th November, 2005 in Ado Ekiti, there has been a remarkable improvement in the standard of Education in the State. Dr. Fayose gave the advice while delivering a commemorative lecture titled "the tomorrow of our youths today" at the Polytechnic, Ibadan campus, during the conferment on him the first distinguished Alumnus award of the Faculty of science of the Institution.The Governor thanked the Faculty of science in particular and the authorities of the polytechnic, Ibadan as a whole of the honour done him, adding that the award was significant to him and consequently dedicated it to the glory of God and the advancement of the course of the youths in Nigeria. Governor Fayose promised to build a N30 million lectures Hall for the faculty through a fund raising which was already in process by the Governor, his friends and associated. In his closing remarks, the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Alao-Akala thanked to emulate the hardwork and good behaviour of the awardee whom he said is a role model for them. Chief Akala who stressed the good and impressive performance of Governor Fayose said that President Olusegun Obasanjo acknowledged it when he visited Ekiti State recently and urged Governor Fayose to keep the flag flying. Earlier, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Ademola Adejumo described Governor Fayose as a beacon of light, diligent example of good behaviour which he urged the current student to emulate. Dr. Adejumobi commended the Ekiti State Governor saying his distinguished performance has transformed Ekiti State in all facets of life and pleaded with parents, Alumni Association and the current students to cooperate with the management of the polytechnic in restoring the old glory of the institution.The Dean, Faulty of Science, Ibadan Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs) Morenike Sanni explained that the first distinguished Alumnus award of the faculty was conferred on Governor Fayose because they were proud of his excellent achievements and wished to encourage him to continue the good works. Appreciating the greatness and benevolences of Governor Fayose, Dr. (Mrs) Sanni described him as the Whale and Diamond of the Ibadan Polytechnic. The colourful occasion was grace by important dignitaries including the representative of the Oyo State Governor, Deputy Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, wife of the Governor, Mrs Feyisetan Fayose, the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly. READ THE FULL ADDRESS. OMOBORIOWO HONOURS FAYOSE AS BEST GOVERNOR. Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayo Fayose has again been showered with encomiums for his laudable projects and commitment to alleviate the hardships being faced by the Ekiti mass. The State Governor was given this kudos by the former Deputy Governor of the old Ondo State and the Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Ado-Ekiti, Chief Akin Omoboriowo at a reception he organized for the Governor at his home town, Ijero-Ekiti on Thursday. Speaking on why he deemed it fit to honour the Governor, Chief Omoboriowo, who described the Governor as a “terrific workaholic” disclosed that such a reception affords him the opportunity to recognise the giant strides of the Governor and publicity show appreciation to him for the proud done the State. Chief Omoboriowo who listed Fayose’s giant strides to include, the dualization of Ado-Ekiti road, integrated poultry, building of ultra modern stadium, road network across the State and increment in the subvention of UNAD among several others, awarded and decorated the Governor as the Best performing Governor in the year 2004 in his (Omoboriowo’s) own judgment. Responding, Governor Fayose lauded Chief Omoboriowo for the support he has been rendering to the State Government from its inception as well as the proud he has done the State. According to the Governor, “you’ve set a legacy which we are going to follow. This is the time to project our credible leaders in Ekiti State to the world. You are a leader this Government will continue to hold in high esteem”. The Governor also lauded the Royal Majesties in the State, the Executives, the members of House of Assembly, his Deputy, Surveyor. Abiodun Aluko and particularly his wife, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose for the support being accorded his Government. EKITI STATE CIVIL SERVANTS BEGAN 2005 ACTIVITIES WITH PRAYERS Civil servants in Ekiti State started year 2005 with series of prayers in their respective offices. At the main prayer meeting comprising all civil servants at the Office of the Governor which was convened by the Head of Service Elder S. O. Bankole at the Governor’s Office Conference Hall, special prayers were offered for the Government and people of Ekiti State. The first Bible reading for the meeting was read by the Head of Service from Psalm150 with emphasis on the need to praise God with everything we have. The second Bible reading was taken from Luke1:28 and read by the Permanent Secretary Cabinet Department, Mr. Adakeja. Pastor Afolabi in his words of exhortation invited the attention of the people to all the blessings of God on the State for the year. The Pastor opined that it would be an ungrateful act if they fail to appreciate God for what he did for the state in the year 2004. He added that God was ready to do more as they were committing the New Year to His hands. The State Head of Service, Elder Olusegun Bankole, in his address said that the New Year was going be different. He confirmed that 2004 staff promotion had already been compiled and had been approved by His Excellency, Dr. Ayodele Fayose. He further encouraged the workers to wake up anew in their various duties and to be faithful at work. After series of prayers lead by Pastor Akande, the meeting was rounded up with closing prayer by Alhaji Ajayi.
