He also mentioned the monthly Medical Intervention Programme (MIP) under which 1,200 free surgeries have been performed and the reform in the pension scheme, which had made it possible for the backlog of gratuities, owed retired civil servants in the state from 1994 to date to be paid.

“Post-Retirement Poverty is a scourge we have gone into battle with. We are not comfortable with the situation whereby the quality of life of people depreciates after retirement.  We have cleared all the arrears of pension and gratuities of retirees from 1994 to date, which we inherited.  We now have a policy that hence forth, whoever retires from the public service today, would receive the cheque for his gratuity not later than 60days after retirement.

GROUP CHIDES EKITI AC OVER FALSE ALARM (31/01/08)
The Action Congress (AC) in Ekiti State has been told to limit itself to the pursuit of its petition on the April 14, governorship election and stop assaulting the people’s intellect with lies and unsubstantiated allegations.
Reacting to claim that the state government intended to bring soldiers into the state so as to pave way for the declaration of another emergency rule, coalition of some non-governmental organizations in the state, Movement for Peace and Good Governance (MOPEGO) said it has become necessary that the ‘all-knowing’ elements in the AC are told in clear terms that Ekiti State cannot be equated with their parochial interest, which is basically to be in the news so that they can maintain their cash flow from unsuspecting local and international donor agencies.
MOPEGO, in a statement signed by its Protem Secretary, Mr. Kunle Ologunodo called on well meaning indigenes of Ekiti State to prevail on the AC to be civil in the pursuit of its ambition to govern the state.
“Does it make sense to a sane mind that a sitting governor would want to bring soldiers into his state so as to cause imposition of emergency rule? This cannot be a lie told in the most ridiculous manner and we are yet to see how anyone can be bought with these kinds of lies that are daily coming from the AC in Ekiti State.
“It has therefore become necessary that these people in the AC are made to understand that Ekiti cannot be held down by their failed attempt to rule the state. They are the ones that approached the election tribunal on the result of the April 14, 2007 poll and they should be civil enough to wait for the outcome of their case instead of raising false alarm everyday.
“They should also get it into their memory that Ekiti cannot be equated with their parochial interest, which is nothing more than to remain in the news so that they can maintain their cash flow from unsuspecting local and international donor agencies.
“Let also be known to the AC leaders that Ekiti people are watching them and at the appropriate time, they would be questioned on their roles in putting the state on the world map negatively,” MOPEGO said.

EKITI GOVT. SLAMS AC OVER FALSE ALLEGATIONS (31/01/08)
Ekiti State Government has described the claim that it intended to bring soldiers into the state with a view to plunging the state into another emergency rule as not only ridiculous but laughable, saying the Action Congress (AC) in the state should try and recover from the shock occasioned by the loss of the April 14, 2007 governorship election.  The government said; “It is very painful that our friends in the AC are yet to recover from the shock of losing an election they could not have won in the first place.
“Since they lost the April 14, 2007 governorship election, it has been from one false allegation to the other and we are beginning to think that they urgently need psychologists to bring their minds back to the world of sanity. Or is it not sickening that someone that is in power would want emergency rule imposed on his state?
“The truth is that if there is any group that would want emergency rule imposed on Ekiti State today, it is the AC. That explains why they have formed an unholy alliance with the impeached former governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose whose tenure threw the state into emergency rule.
“It is also a known fact that since the April 14, 2007 governorship election was won and lost, every efforts of the AC had been geared towards throwing the state into chaos but they have consistently been frustrated by the matured way Governor Oni has been handling the political situations in the state. We all witnessed how the party organized violent protest that led to the burning of government vehicle last Thursday during the visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the state.
“It is however important to advise AC leaders in the state to find a way to recover from the shock occasioned by their loss of that election and begin to channel their human and material resources towards more dignifying ventures. After all, others who lost elections have moved on with their lives, leaving the election tribunal to do justice to their grievances.
“It will also do the AC leaders a lot of good if they stop exposing themselves to scorn from members of the public who are now more interested in the numerous developmental programmes of the Engr. Segun Oni led government, other than lies from the AC’s propaganda machinery
