FAYOSE - 13/12/05 With the incessant air crash in Nigeria, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose has said, with God, there will surely be an end to the unfortunate incidents of air crash. The Governor reacting to the latest Sosoliso air crash said with three air crashes in two months, there was need for concern by all patriotic and humane men and women. The Governor said apart from the sanitation of the Aviation Industry which was long overdue, God has a role to play. "Let us rise now and pray", the governor concluded. STAFF AUDITING IN EKITI STATE - 14/12/05 In view of recent findings regarding irregularities in promotion and advancement of Civil Servant in Ekiti State, the Office of the State Auditor General has commenced staff auditing of all staff in the employment of Ekiti State Civil Service.
In a statement released by the State Auditor General Mr. A. G. Ajayi, the state's civil servants were to appear before a team of Auditors at varying dates during the month of December, 2005. According to the statement, any Staff who fails to appear with appropriate credentials would be regarded as a ghost worker until proved otherwise.  It is pertinent to note that some people recently petitioned the State Government concerning alleged irregularities in the salary progression of various cadres in the Civil Service. In his characteristic manner to ensure fair play, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose immediately ordered an investigation into the matter. This apparently informed the recent exercise being carried out by the State Auditor General. EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT TO SINK 708 BOREHOLES. 7/12/05 Ekiti State Government is to commence the process of sinking over 708 boreholes spread across the 177 wards in the State next week. To this end, borehole drilling rigs, project trucks and other equipments recently procured by the State Government are being text-run in readiness for the smooth take-off of the programme. Speaking with newsmen while inspecting the equipment and other facilities at the Ado-Ekiti water works, Ekiti State Government, Dr. Ayodele Fayose said 4 to 5 boreholes are to be sunk in each of the 177 wards in the State. He also disclosed that the Federal Government was making concerted efforts to assist the Ekiti State Government on the planned expansion of the over stretched facilities at the Ado-Ekiti water scheme at Ureje area of the Ekiti State capital. According to him, the contract for the expansion programme which is expected to triple the output of the over 30-year old water scheme is to advertise by the relevant Federal Government Agencies within the next one week. Speaking on the traffic situation in the state capital, Governor Fayose said hard times await owners of vehicles parked carelessly along the Post-Office, Oja Oba and Old garage areas of the city and hawkers of goods using their wheeled barrows to obstruct the free flow of traffic around these areas. He said such vehicles would henceforth have their tires clamped while fines will be imposed on the owners by the relevant government agencies. The Governor directed the hawkers-on-wheel barrows to relocate to the new modern market along Ajilosun area or face severe sanctions. In the meantime, Governor Ayodele Fayose has assured that the 14.5 kilometre Awo-Eyio-Esure-Ifaki road project would be completed before the end of the year. He gave the assurance while inspecting the road project at Eyio-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State. Governor Fayose who drove on the Asphalted portion stretching from Awo to Eyio disclosed that the portion abandoned by the contractor handling the Igede-Awo-Iropora-Osi-Igbole-Ido road in 2002 would be completed soon. FAYOSE ADMINISTRATION IS WELL FOCUSED. 7/12/05 The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ado-Ekiti, Prof. Dipo Kolawole has described the Fayose Administration in Ekiti State as a well focused, goal oriented administration that was beneficial to the people of the State. Prof. Kolawole who spoke in Ado-Ekiti against the backdrop of the recent rating released by the World Bank, USAID, DFID, UNDP and the National Planning Commission which named Ekiti as the 4th best state in Nigeria, said statistics don’t lie stressing that the foreign based agencies which carried out the study must have objective and scientific procedure to arrive at their submission. According to him “that Ekiti performed well in areas of service delivery, policy, budget and fiscal management as well as communication and transparency was no mean achievement considering the fact that the state collects the least allocation from the Federation accounts among the 36 states of the Federation” Professor Kolawole who predicted a better future for the state under the present leadership said he was particularly pleased that Ekiti State beat some of overall best 3 states in the area of policy. He predicted that the remarkable improvement in the quality of roads, and service delivery in the state will have a multiplier effect on the living standard of the people. The University down advised the Fayose-administration to sustain the good performance. Speaking on the wave of criticism which continue to trail the Fayose-Administration in spite of its landmark achievement achievements, Prof. Kolawole advised the Governor to remain focused in order not to distracted by his adversaries. He urged Governor Fayose to take a cue from Chief Awolowo who in spite of the severe criticisms of his opponents contributed more than anyone to the development of Western Nigeria. The UNAD Deputy Vice Chancellor, however urged of government to be scientific and constructive in their criticisms. THE FEDERAL POLY ADO HOLDS 13TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY.The 13th convocation ceremony of the Federal Polytechnic Ado – Ekiti was held on 17th December 2005. The rector of the school, Prof. Olawumi Ajaja welcomed visitors from all works of life including the Federal Minister of Education, representative of the Ekiti State Governor, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education Kaduna, rectors and other officers from polytechnics and Vice chancellors of Universities.Prof. Olawumi Ajaja also acknowledged the presence of his Royal majesty; the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti as well as his chiefs who have the interest of the polytechnic at heart.The ceremony marked the formal admittance of graduating student from 2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 set into the National and Higher national Diploma and 91 Professional Draughtmanship certificates.The Professor noted that he met an institution that was peaceful, when he took over the rectorship of the institution i.e from his predecessor – Chief A.B. Ojo, According to him, the institution now have constant power supply, portable water and various physical infrastructures had been accomplished during his time as the rector of the polytechnic, noting that communication facilities have also been installed on campus e.g MTN, Glo, and V-mobile.Prof. Ajaja did not forget to thank the former deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko for mediating and restoration of peace on the campus some time ago; as the campus is still a haven of peace. He noted that the father of peace has always been His Excellency, Dr. Ayo Fasyose, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, who often stand to prevent violence on campus with his sense of dialogue and constructive thinking. HAWKERS OF ASSORRTED GOODS MOVED TO AJILOSUN MARKET 7/12/05Buying and selling is set to commence in full swing at the Ajilosun Ultra-modern Market Ado-Ekiti as Ekiti State Government has permitted hawkers-on-wheel barrows and other road side traders to start operating from the Multi-million market complex. Governor Ayodele Fayose who announced the decision while addressing hawkers of assorted materials in Ado-Ekiti gave them one month of grace to operate free of charge but added that Government will begin to collect a monthly rent from individual sellers as from January, 2006. The hawkers on wheel barrow were allocated the frontage of the market while hawkers of food related items were allocated the Irona end of the market. The Governor who personally showed the hawkers where the different groups of sellers are to stay said government will provide a standard table for every seller and a giant-sized generating set to supply power so that buying and selling can continue in the complex until 9.00pm. He said government would provide two giant refuse bins and warned that severe sanction awaits any trader who liters the market. With the relocation of the roadside hawkers to the new Ajilosun modern market, selling along the road around Post Office, Oja-Oba area in the Ekiti State capital has now become an offence. Selling along the corridors of outside the new Ajilosun market has also been out-lawed. FAYOSE PRESENTS CAR TO OWA OOYE OF OKEMESI 7/12/05Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has assured that his administration would continue to accord Traditional Rulers in the State the highest respect and recognition. Speaking at Okemesi-Ekiti during the presentation of an E-Class Mercedes Benz car to the Owa-Ooye of Okemesu, Oba Gbadebo Adedeji, Governor Fayose commended traditional rulers in the State for their wise counsels and enormous contributions to the smooth administration of the State. The Governor paid glowing tribute to Oba Gbadebo Adedeji for his uprightness and commitment to the well-being of his people. According to him, the Owa-Ooye was special to him as he was the first traditional ruler he presented the staff of office to upon his assumption of office as Governor of Ekiti State. Dr. Fayose promised to ensure that the presence of Government was more felt in the town in the years to come. Responding, the Owa-Ooye expressed appreciation to Governor Fayose for the card gift which he describe as unprecedented in the history of the town. He commended Governor Fayose for his giant strides in the areas of infrastructural, education, provision of electricity and pipe-borne water in towns and villages across the State. While pledging the unflinching support and cooperation of his people to the Fayose Administration, he however appealed to the State Government to ensure the early completion of the Itawure-Okemesi road project. High point of the event was the installation of the Managing Director of the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Akin Osuntokun and his wife as the Aare Bashorun and Yeye Bashorun of Okemesi by the Owa-Ooye. EKSG HOSTED PASTOR W.F. KUMUYI 7/12/05 The Deeper Life Bible Church General Superintendent, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi has commended the efforts of Gov. Ayodele Fayose in transforming Ekiti State. The Worldwide Preacher made this commendation in the conference Hall, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti on today 7th of December, 2005 during the official reception held in favour of the man of God by the State Governor and his top officials. The servant of God said that he came to Ekiti for two major reasons – For the Great Crusade that is coming up between 8th and 11th, 2005 by 5.00p.m. daily at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium and for the Annual Christian Conference of Deeper Life Bible Church at Deeper Life Camp Ground, Ajebamidele, Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti by 8.00 a.m. – 3.00p.m daily on the same date. Governor Fayose in his speech said that he has been praying to have a personal encounter with man of God and thanked God that he has the prayer answered today. The Chief Executive added that the first visit of Pastor W.F. Kumuyi since the creation of Ekiti State was during his own time and was happy and believed that Ekiti will have the touch of God before the departure of the servant of God. He then urged the people of Ekiti both young and old to participate in the Crusade that brought the Pastor to Ekiti so that they too can receive their own blessing IBADAN POLY CONFERS FELLOWSHIP ON GOVERNOR FAYOSE. 7/12/05 Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has been conferred with the Honourary Fellowship of the Polytechnic, Ibadan. The Fellowship which is the highest honourary award of the polytechnic was conferred on Governor Fayose at the institution’s 22nd graduation ceremony held over the week end at Ibadan. In a lecture entitled “Polytechnic Education in Nigeria, Self Reliance and the problems of unemployment” presented by Governor Fayose, the Governor made a case for the re-organisation of the nation’s education system both in focus and objectives. According to him, the current programmes being run by the National tertiary institutions seem to be defective as the institutions seem to be preparing their students only for salaried employment upon graduation. Dr. Fayose said emphasis should shift from the status-quo to technological education under which the graduates of higher institution should look inwards and make more use of their hands and brains. He advised the graduating students not to see academic and professional qualification as an end in itself but as a preparation for higher service to humanity. Earlier in his address, Oyo State Governor, Senator Rahid Ladoja commended the Polytechnic’s Authorities for their efforts at restore the institution’s lost glories. Governor Ladoja who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Obileye promised to continue to adequately fund the Polytechnic. In his address, the Chairman of the Institution’s Governing council, Engr. Akin Adetunji noted that efforts of the committee on staff discipline set up by the council in the citadel of learning had started yielding positive results. According to him, admission rackets, examination mal-practices, student harassment and extortion in whatever from had been reduced to the bearest minimum in the Polytechnic. Engr. Adetunji disclosed that the council was making efforts to liaise with well meaning individuals, corporate bodies, Government agencies to raise funds See Address EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT COMPLETES PAYMENT ON N4 BILLION BOND.Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose says the State Government would this month complete the repayment of the N4 billion bond sourced from the Capital market by the immediate past administration. The Governor who made this known while addressing Local Government workers in Ado-Ekiti in preparately for next Thursday’s National Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) Day also disclosed that the State Government had in July this year completed the repayment of another N800 million bank loan obtained by the past administration. According to him, things were getting better for Ekiti State as the State was no longer indebted to any bank or financial institution apart from debt inherited from the old western Region and the old Ondo State. FAYOSE CLEARS AIR ON CHRISTMAS BONUS FOR WORKERS 7/12/05Civil servants and Teachers in the Ekiti State public service are to receive 5% of their December salaries as Christmas bonus. Governor Ayodele Fayose who made this known on Aramoko-Ekiti while addressing council workers in Ekiti West Local Government said the gesture was part of efforts to encourage workers to put in their best for the development of the State. He said the Christmas bonus will be paid directly into their accounts to ensure that all workers get the Christmas bonuses in good time. Dr. Fayose urged the council workers to participate actively in forthcoming National Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) day scheduled to hold at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Thursday, December 8, 2005. According to him, the council adjudged to be the best in the State during the NULGE Day would received a prize of N1 million. The Governor charged Ekiti West council workers to shun absenteeism, lateness to duty, indolence and other vices, that could negatively affect their productivity. He announced a loan of N1 million to the Ekiti West Local Government council to enable t pay outstanding Bursary Awards to its indigenes in tertiary institutions. Dr. Fayose urged the students who were starting a peaceful protest when he arrived the council for the visit to always use diplomacy and other peaceful means to advance their cause. EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT WOULD HONOUR DESERVING CITIZENS 7/12/05Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has said his government would continue to reward people who contribute positively to the development of the State. Speaking at the presentation of a Mercedez Benz E200 Saloon car to a community leader, Prince Adegoke Adewumi at Ojumose in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Fayose said it was better to honour our heroes and elderstateman while they were alive than giving them post-humous recognition. He described Prince Adewumi a reliable and dependable elder-stateman who contributed immensely to his emergence as Ekiti State Governor in the 2003 elections. He said Prince Adewumi had not waivered in his support for his administration erver since as the octogenarian had always given him wise counsel and had helped a lot in the sustenance of peace in the State. Governor Fayose explained that the car was presented in the same spirit with the one he presented to elder-stateman and frontline politician, Chief S.K. Babalola earlier in the year. He said the presentation was part of activities marking the 9th anniversary of the State’s creation as well as the Ekiti Day Celebration and his 45th Birthday celebrating coming up next week. Responding, Prince Adegoke Adewumi expressed appreciation to Governor Ayo Fayose for the recognition and car gift. He thanked the Governor for the pleasant surprise praying God to grant him success in his future endeavours. Speaking during a press interview after the presentation, Governor Fayose said the several activities were lined up for the forth coming Ekiti Day Celebrations and his 45th birthday anniversary. According to him, there would be a public lecture, a tour of completed and on-going projects, and a stakeholders forum to be attended by previous Governors of the state. He disclosed work would commence on the extension of a dedicated line from Ilesa 132/33 sub-station to Ado-Ekiti before the end of the year. Dr. Fayose said the N150 million project would greatly improve electricity supply to the State before the completion of the on-going 132/33 sub-station in Ado-Ekiti. He said, he remains a committed member at the PDP and an ardent supporter of president Obasanjo. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IKERE TO BE UPGRADED TO FULL FLEDGED UNIVERSITY 7/12/05The College of Education, Ikere Ekiti is to be elevated to a full-fledged University of Education. The State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose who made the disclosure in his address at the institution’s 19th Convocation ceremony held over the weekend at Ikere-Ekiti directed the State Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Esther Fabusuyi to set the necessary machinery in motion for the smooth transformation of the college into a full-fledged University of Education within the shortest possible time. He promised to do the required political spadework to ensure the proposed University clears the required hurdles. Governor Fayose commended college’s Governing council, the Provost and his management team for the physical development as well as the high academic standard achieved in the college in the last two years. While restating the commitment of his administration to the welfare of staff and students of the college, he promised to construct an additional 1-kilometer asphalt-laid road within the campus. The Governor disclosed that his administration had set aside a sum of N30 million for the construction of an ultra-modern auditorium which according to him will be completed before the next convocation of the college. While congratulating the graduating students for successfully completing their studies, he however urged them to look inwards for gainful employment rather than looking for white-colar jobs that are now difficult to come by. Dr. Fayose warned lecturers in the college as well as civil servants in the State civil service and Local Government councils to steer clear of partisan politics as any public servant caught engaging in politics would be shown the way out of service. Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Institution’s Governing Council, Rev. Akin Olusegun expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State Government for the financial, moral and material support as well as the interest shown in the college which according to him had transformed it from its erstwhile deadwood status to an enviable citadel of learning. He called on the Federal Government to scrap the Joint Admission and matriculation Board (JAMB) stressing that the recent post-JAMB screening exercise conducted by University across the country had shown that many of the high-scoring JAMB candidates could not justify their high marks in screening. Rev. Olusegun made a case for the provision of good sporting facilities in the campuses of higher institutions across the nation in order to keep the students engaged thus reducing their chances of engaging in cultism and other anti-social behaviours. In his address, the Provost of the college, Dr. Timothy Ikudayisi said consequent upon the recent accreditation exercise conducted by officials of the National Commission for College of Education, (NCCE), the college was rated to have one of the best Educational Technological laboratories as well as other facilities among Colleges of Education in Nigeria. While commending the Fayose-administration for the financial support to the citadel of learning, the Provost noted that an atmosphere of peace and concord now prevails on the college campus as members of staff are now more alive to their responsibilities. He posited that with a little more financial assistance from the Government, the college will produce more quality education degree holders without being an appendage of any tertiary institution. A total of 4,085 granduands drawn from the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 sets were awarded the Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) during the convocation. FAYOSE ASSURED JOB SEEKERS. 7/12/05Ekiti State Government will forward the credentials of qualified applicants who may not be absorbed into the State Civil Service in the current recruitment exercise to banks and other corporate organisations opening their branches in Ekiti State. Governor Ayodele Fayose made the promise when he addressed applicants attending Ekiti State Civil Service interview in Ado-Ekiti. Dr. Fayose told the job seekers that a minimum of 1,000 among them would be recruited into various Ministries and government departments. Responding to a complaint that holders of HND certificates were being exempted from the recruitment exercise, Governor Fayose held a meeting with the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Pastor Ayodele Adeyemo after which he instantly approved the recruitment of HND holders into Higher Technical Officers position in Ministries and other government agencies. Speaking with newsmen on the exercise, the Chairman of the Civil Service Service Commission, explained that the concern of Governor Fayose on the level of joblessness among youths in the State led to the current recruitment exercise. He stressed that the exercise would be strictly on merit. The Civil Service Commission boss announced that HND holders are now scheduled to come for their interview on Tuesday, 13th December, 2005. |
