In a meeting held at Imesi-Ekiti with the monarchs of Irun Akoko and Imesi Ekiti the Governor said that it was necessitated by the need to remove hostilities between the border communities which the two Governor’s expressed great worry about.The Ekiti State Governor’s Dr Ayodele Fayose who observed that land, which was the bone of contention would outlive everybody urged them to stop killing themselves.The Governor warned against the use of O’odua peoples Congress (OPC) members to terrorize innocent citizens saying it was unlawful, and affirmed that the Police was the only constitutionally empowered agency to maintain peace, law and order.The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu in his remarks said that the people of the two states should follow the example of the two Governor’s friendly relationship and stated that anybody breaching the peace of their area was an enemy of the two State Governments. Dr Agagu noted that hostilities among border communities have been on the increase because of the forthcoming population census and urged everybody to continue to farm on the land they were using before the crisis, pending the resolution of the dispute.The Ondo State Governor affirmed that resolution of land dispute was the prerogative of the National Boundary Commission adding that the two state Government s were just trying to ensure peace and security among the border communities.In his speech, the royal host, Onimesi of Imesi Ekiti, Oba Adeyeye Oladimeji appreciated the concern and visit of the two Governors and stated that Imesi and Irun Communities were one historically, adding that they were at peace with each other.The Onimesi pleaded with Government to beef up security by deploying more police in the area and assured that his people would continue to be peaceful and law-abiding.The Onirun of Irun-Akoko, Oba Williams Adelusi confirmed that Irun and Imesi communities were not at war with each other, saying they enjoyed friendly and mutual relationship. The Royal fathers thanked the Governors and Governments of the two states for their concern over the issue and assured that they would continue to remain peaceful and friendly with their neighbors.Dr Fayose who gave the assurance while addressing the community during a stop over at their village assured them of improved water supply to the area in order to enhance their standard of living. MORE ROADS FOR REHABILITATION – (31/08/05) Construction work on the Aiyetoro-Ekiti – Ewu – Iye road is to commence before the end of the year. Governor Ayodele Fayose made this known when he received people of Ewu community in Ado-Ekiti said the town’s electricity project would be completed soon. The Governor stressed the importance of good, roads and electricity to the development of any community stressing that he was irrevocably committed to the provision of basic amenities in all the towns and villages of the State. He paid glowing tribute to the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Duro Ajayi who is an indigene of the town. Earlier in his address, the Elewu of Ewu, Oba Bamidele Adeniran Adetutu had expressed appreciation to Governor Fayose for releasing the sum of N5 million for the completion of the town’s electricity project which had been abandoned by the Federal Government since 2001. He also expressed appreciation to the Fayose administration for providing food stuff and relief materials to residents of the community following the flood which ravage the community early this year. The monarch pledged the support and cooperation of his people to the Fayose administration. |
EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT PRESENTS CARS TO OBAS - (22/08/05) Ekiti State Government has presented a Mercedes Bens E Class, to the Alafao of Afao-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Ademilua. This was a follow-up to the earlier presentation to some first class TRADITIONAL RULERS in the state. Presenting the key of the car to the Alafao in his palace on Sunday, the State Governor, Dr. Fayose explained that Oba Ademilua deserved the car in view of the fact that he is the monarch of his home town adding that charity begins at home. Dr. Fayose said if other Obas could get cars from Government, it behooves on him to present one to the traditional ruler of his home regardless of his grading.
The Governor advised the youths to face their studies squarely to enhance a better future for them and urged the indigenes of the Afao community to close ranks in the interest of the development of the community in particular and Ekiti State in general. The Chief Executive assured other Obas in the State that Government would soon extend the on-going car donation to them. Responding, the Alafao of Afao-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Ademilua who said he was proud of Dr. Fayose’s impressive performance thanked the Governor for the car gift and gave assurance of continued support of the Afao community to Government. EKSG TO REWARD OUTSTANDING ATHLETES Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has said that the best Local Government in the on-going 2nd Ekiti State Sport Festival would receive a cash price of N1 million from the State Government. Dr. Fayose who dropped the hint on Tuesday at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti while flagging-off the festival explained that the gesture was part of Government’s measure to promote sports development in the State. The Chief Executive added that handsome rewards awaited the best team and athletes at the end of the one week sports festival. He assured that the second phase of the reconstruction of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium would soon start and expressed optimism that the State would soon raise a standard team that would win laurels for it at both national and international sporting competitions. The Governor expressed happiness that Oluyemi Kayode Stadium was wearing a new look and that the State as a whole was making a considerable progress. Dr. Fayose assured that his government would not relent efforts at improving the living standard of the people directed that the Ekiti anthem be taught in schools and sung at public occasions as a way of promoting unity among Ekiti people. Earlier, the State Commissioner for Information, Sports, Culture, Youths and Social Development, Sir. Kayode Otitoju thanked Governor Fayose for approving fund for the hosting of the sports festival. Sir Otitoju expressed the hope that the festival would prepare the Ekiti State contingent for the forthcoming national sports festival holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, adding that the State would take its pride of place in sports. The Commissioner appreciated the 16 Local Government Councils for sponsoring their respective contingents to the festival and wished all the participants a good luck at the event. In his address, the Chairman, Ekiti State Ports Council, Barrister Owoseni Ajayi who recalled that the 1st and the last Ekiti State sports festival was held in 1998 commended Governor Fayose for resuscitating the festival and expressed the hope that the festival would continue to hold on a regular interval of 2 years. Barrister Ajayi disclosed that over 1000 athletes and officials from the 16 Local Governments in the State were participating in the festival and expressed optimism that it would serve as an opportunity for the athletes to improve themselves for greater performance. The highpoint of the occasion was the taking of the kick by Governor Ayodele Fayose in an opening football match between Fasuba Babes of the Ado-Ekiti Local Government and the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government football team. The opening ceremony also witnessed a march past parade by the contingents of all the 16 Local Governments in the State. EKITI STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR ADVISED TO RESIGN - 05/09/05 The National working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has advised the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko to resign or face impeachment by the State House of assembly. The Legal Adviser of PDP in Ekiti State, Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi disclosed to newsmen at the Akure Airport while answering questions on the outcome of the meeting held in Abuja at the instance of the National working Committee PDP over the misunderstanding between Governor Ayodele Fayose and his Deputy, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko. According to Barrister Ajayi, the National Working Committee of the PDP considered all the facts of the matter before them and concluded that the options available to the Deputy Governor were to either resign or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly. The Legal Adviser explained that the National PDP had earlier set-up a committee to look into the evidence of the State House of Assembly as well as South West Zonal report on the issue. Barrister Ajayi said that the deputy Governor insisted that he would not resign saying it was unwarranted. The Legal Adviser, who arrived Akure Airport in company of PDP Chieftains, disclosed that Governor Ayodele Fayose attended the meeting. EKITI SPEAKER CALLS FOR SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA QUEST FOR A SIT IN UNITED NATIONS – (8/09/05) The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Chief Friday Aderemi has called on the Commonwealth Nations to support Nigeria quest for a sit in the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council. Addressing the Executive Council of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, in its ongoing conference in Nadi, Fiji Island, Chief Aderemi said the Council had the potentials, which made qualify for the sit.He argued that Nigeria was the most populous and most populated black nation in the world, with a population of about one hundred and fifty million people and an intimidating landmass, which outstretched some four countries put together in the Africa continent.The Speaker further told the gathering that Nigeria played very fundamentally significant roles in the struggle for independence of many nations in South and Central Africa, particularly, the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa.He stressed that the nation had spent billion of her resources in ensuring the stability of the West Africa sub-region and the continent at large, a task which he explained was in accordance with the philosophy of the U.N.O.Chief Aderemi submitted that the admittance of Nigeria into the council was a victory for the black race, whose interest he said was pathetically maligned under slavery and colonialism. ARREST RUMOUR A FARCE SAYS FAYOSE. The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Ayodele Fayose yesterday dismissed the rumour going round Ekiti State that he and some of his aids were arrested at the Airport on his way out of the country. In a monthly media chat held yesterday by the Governor, he reiterated the fact that his detractors will gain little by pursuing politics of bitterness. He added that his performance in Ekiti State was behind the state of uneasiness of his detractors who believe that it would be difficult to win any election through the ballot box. He further noted that he would be undaunted by the incessant brickbats thrown at him by a few disgruntled elements as he has a mandate to leave a legacy in Ekiti State. According to him, his myriad of achievements would campaign for him in the event of his seeking re-election in the nearest future. He therefore enjoined all and sundry irrespective of their political linage to join hands with his purposeful government to make Ekiti State a better state for all. Fayose’s Ibadan house attacked by Arsonists - (22/8/05) The private residence of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose was on Sunday 21st of August 2005 attacked by suspected arsonists. The men, numbering eight and armed with dangerous weapons, arrived the Fagbohun street residence of Dr. Fayose in two vehicles and attempted to burn down the building. A security guard at the scene immediately attracted the police by firing a shot into the sky. This apparently forced the hoodlums to make a hasty retreat in one of the buses. The Governor who was in the house till the previous Saturday would appear to be the target of the attack. The second vehicle abandoned by the arsonists contained a pistol and the campaign posters of a gubernatorial aspirant in Ekiti State. The driver of the vehicle who was also apprehended by the police is said to be helping police in their investigations. The Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose however, commented that he would always triumph as a result of his permanent dependence on the Almighty God that appointed him. IGBO IN EKITI MEET GOVERNOR FAYOSE - (22/08/05)Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has promised to release N1.5 million for the purchase of a Bus for the Igbo community in Ekiti State in order to ease transportation problems encountered in their trade.Dr. Fayose gave the promise in his office on Tuesday while meeting with representatives of the Ibo community in the State. He said he appreciated the contributions of the Ibo people to the socio-economic development of Ekiti State. The Governor thanked them for the support given to his administration and assured that his Government would continue to accord all and sundry including the Ibo a pride of place.He expressed his believe in one united Nigeria despite its cultural and ethnic diversities and explained that this informed his decision to give an Ibo name to his last born, Chuwuemeka Fayose.Reacting to some issues raised, Governor Fayose clarified that he did not cancel UNAD College of medicine, which he said existed only in name adding that his administration was planning to lay a solid foundation for an effective take-off of the institution. He said education was free in the State and intimated that its fortunes have improved as the State has moved from 35th to 14th position within the short period of his administration.Earlier, the President General of the Ibo community in Ekiti State, Prince Dennis Amobi appreciated the efforts of Governor Ayodele Fayose at empowering the people socially and economically.Prince Amobi advised Government to create a capital territory of 15 kilometers radius to decongest the State capital and enhance a widespread development and commended the Governor for offering employment to young people of Ibo origin in the Ekiti State civil service and for other Government policies beneficial to them.A prominent Ibo leader and renown businessman in Ado-Ekiti, Chief D. N. Okoli applauded Governor Fayose’s efforts and advised him to do his best and ignore his critics saying nobody could satisfy human beings. |
