EKITI STATE GOVERNOR WARNS PROPERTY DEVELOPERS - 9/11/05 Any property developer who discharges sand, gravel or any building materials into drains along major road in Ekiti State is to be arrested and charged to court by the Ekiti State Government. Governor Ayo Fayose who gave the warning while inspecting on-going road projects in Ado-Ekiti said it was unfortunate that some individuals could as a result of their selfish interest block the drainages constructed at huge cost by the State Government. He said if this unpatriotic act was left unchecked it could lead to flooding of the roads and ad-joining areas. At Oke-Ese area of Ado-Ekiti, Governor Fayose ordered some construction workers at a 2-storey building to correct some noticeable structural defects on the building. He said if the defects were not corrected, the relevant Government agencies would pull down the building in order to avert a major disaster in the State. At Ijigbo Roundabout, Governor Fayose ordered the removal of Banners attached to the round about as the old banners were creating an eye-sore to the roundabout and the environment.
EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT TO SET UP TASK FORCE ON LOW CABLES - 9/11/05 Ekiti is to set up a task force charged with the responsibility of disconnection low lying electricity cables and service wires crossing major roads in the State Capital. Governor Ayo Fayose gave the indication when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Ekiti Kete Road Maintenance Agency (EKROMA) said low-lying wires poised a serious danger to vehicles and passers-bye. He directed officials of the National Power Holding Company of Nigeria to disconnect electricity lines supplying power to (EKROMA) Agency which he said was too low. The order was carried out immediately as the Governor was still inspecting the heavy duty equipment at the Agency. After the inspection, Governor Fayose told newsmen that the Government was putting the earth-moving equipment in a good working condition in readiness for major rehabilitation works on State roads as the forthcoming dry season approached. ROPO ADESANYA RETURNS AS PDP CHAIRMAN - 9/11/05 The Ekiti State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently held its state congress in Ado-Ekiti under a peaceful atmosphere. With the exception of the chairmanship position which was contested between the incumbent chairman, Lion Ropo Adesanya and Mr Femi Lawal of the Ojo Falegan-led Majeobaje group, almost all the candidates for other positions were returned unopposed. However, a new state woman leader, Mrs. Jolaade Onipede has emerged. At the end of the congress presided over by Senator Martins Yelowe from Rivers State, Lion Ropo Adesanya defeated Mr. Femi Lawal from the Majeobaje group by 201 votes to 19. Click to continueFAYOSE CALLS FOR PROPER MAINTENANCE OF ROADS - 04/11/05 Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has called for the proper maintenance of major roads in the country by the relevant arms of government in order to reduce the carnage on Nigerian roads. Governor Fayose made the call during a press chat in Ibadan where he had gone to commiserate with his Oyo State counterpart, Senator Rashidi Ladoja over the death of his aides in a ghastly accident. He described the death of Governor Ladoja’s aides as a sad loss, but, he however took solace in the biblical injunction which state that “God giveth, God taketh”. According to the Governor, as human beings we all owe it a duty to pray for the repose of souls of the dead while we should also console the living they left behind. He called on all Nigerians to pray to God to prevent the types of monumental tragedy that had befallen the nation in recent times. After the condolence visit, Governor Fayose later took time off to inspect the 100 tractors purchased by the Oyo State Government that were parked within the Oyo State Governor;s Office premises in Ibadan. The Governor was led on the inspection by the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bayo Akala and the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mr. Ayodele Adigun. GOV. FAYOSE URGED EKITI PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR PRESIDENT OBASANJO - 26/10/05 Gov. Fayose of Ekiti solicited for Ekiti Earlier, Her Excellency, Mrs Feyi Fayose described the sudden demise of the First Lady as a huge loss to womanhood and the nation. She observed that the death of Mrs. Obasanjo has left a huge vacuum that would be very difficult to fill. Mrs Feyisetan said that the First Lady was a rare gem and a gift to the women folk. She added that she was not only endowed with an amiable personality, but, also a true mother in every sense of the world. PDP CONGRESS - ADESANYA RETAINS CHAIRMAN POSITION (CONTD)Other officers elected at the congress include Mr. Oni Kolawole (Assistant Secretary North), Mr. J.B. Adewumi (Assistant Secretary South), Mrs P.A. Opedare (Assistant Secretary Central), Chief J.B. Omotoso (Treasusrer) while Chief J.I. Olatuyi was returned as the State Secretary. Other state officers elected at the congress are Chief Oladipo Ebenezer (Financial Secretary), Prince Ayo Ogunse (State Organizing Secretary), Hon. Olawumi Ogunleye (Assistant Organizing Secretary Central), Hon. Kingsley Ogunbolude (Asst. Organizing Secretary South) and Alhaji Ganiyu Bakare who was elected State Publicity Secretary of the party. Mrs. Rachael Olagunju was returned as the State Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mr. G. A. Fabiyi (State Auditor), Barrister Akin Ajayi (Legal Adviser, while Chief A. O. Alabi, Mr. Sam Aboko and Tayo Egunlusi were returned as Assistant Legal Advisers. Messrs Eleka Joshua Oyo, Olanrewaju and Mrs. Oguntuase Beatrice were returned as ex-officio members of the party. Speaking to newsmen after the election of the state officers, Governor Ayodele Fayose commended the conduct of delegates at the congress. He said a level playing ground was provided for all candidates who contested for offices during the state congress. He said the result of the congress clearly indicates that the aggrieved members of the party were in the minority. Governor Fayose however extended his hands of fellowship to the aggrieved members of the party stressing that the doors of the party were still wide opens for the estranged members.Also speaking to the press after his election, the re-elected state chairman of the party, Lion Ropo Adesanya said he will make discipline and loyalty to the state and national leadership to the aggrieved members in task of reclaiming the mandate of the people of the state in the 2007 elections. Responding to the result of the congress, Mr. Femi Lawal who lost the chairmanship election to the incumbent Chairman agreed that the congress was held in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere. He however blamed his defeat to the fact that leaders of his Majeobaje group did not make the delegates list in their various Local Government. Mr. Lawal urged members of his group to join hands with the leadership of the party in Ekiti State in tasks of taking the state to greater heights. He commended party leaders, the delegates and the organizers for the success of the congress. MARKET WOMEN STORMED ADO-EKITI, GOV. FAYOSE INTERVENED The quick intervention of Ekiti State Governor Mr. Ayo Fayose prevented what could have been a break down of law and order in the state as scores of market women stormed the streets of Ado-Ekiti on Saturday 10th of March, 2005 in a peaceful protest against the alleged plan of the government to relocate the state secretariat to Afao-Ekiti. Allegedly acting on the instruction of the Ado Ekiti Progressive Union, (APU), the umbrella body of all Ado-Ekiti indigenes, the market women hit the street very early in the morning in an expression of opposition to the alleged relocation plan, which the state government has however consistently denied. Made up of ‘Oloris’ and other categories of women, the protesters marched through the streets peacefully. The APU had been logged in a battle of misunderstanding with the state government over the alleged planed relocation of the state secretariat to Afao Ekiti the hometown of Governor Fayose. But in an attempt to forestall the protest, Governor Fayose reportedly held a lengthy meeting with the Ewi in council on Friday 11th of March, 2005 for understanding on the issue of the alleged relocation plan and for the council to APU members on the need to show restraint in their actions in the interest of peace and unity of the state. At the meeting, Governor Fayose was said to have promised to revisit the issue that generated misunderstanding between his administration and Ado-Ekiti people. The Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejuyigbe was said to have promised the Governor at the meeting to call members of APU and those planning to cause disorder in the state to order so as to ensure continuous peace in the state. Though some shops were locked-up in the day as a result of the protest they however reopened later in the day while normalcy returned thereafter. The quick intervention of governor Fayose was what prevented the protest from achieving a large-scale success, because of the intervention many of the market women that would have joined the protest changed their minds while members of the various transport unions and Okada riders refused participation. The state government has persistently denied any plan to relocate the state secretariat or any part of it ,explaining that what it wanted to do was a construction of an extension of the Ministry of Agriculture along Ado\Afao road and Education house along Ado/Ikere road. GOV. FAYOSE SIGNED 2005 APPROPRIATION BILLEkiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has signed the 2005 Appropriation Bill into law with an assurance that he will faithfully implement the bill to the letter. Speaking at the ceremony in Ado- Ekiti, Governor Fayose assured that adequate steps would be taken to ensure the successful implementation of the 2005 budget totaling N20, 954,415,902. According to him, ministries and departments in the State are henceforth to submit their cash flow projections for the year to the State Ministry of Finance and Budget as well as the State Planning Commission for guidance in the approval and Release of funds. The Governor said in addition, that all requests for approval of funds for both recurrent and Capital projects should contain relevant information for such request to receive his approval. He stated that the budget monitoring committee set up last year would be adequately funded to ensure effective monitoring of the 2005 budget.Governor Fayose urged all government agencies to cooperate with the budget monitoring committee as any failure on their part will be viewed with all seriousness. Dr. Fayose explained that the budget had been reviewed upward to N20,954,415,902 from the initial figure of N20,278,065,902 by the State House of Assembly owing to the increase in the projected price of crude oil from $27 to $30 per barrel by the Federal Government.According to him, N12,719,076,666 of the entire 2005 budget Figure has been set aside as recurrent expenditure with the balance of N8,235,339,236 will be committed to capital projects during the year. While commending members of the State House of assembly for giving the budget proposal adequate scrutiny, Governor Fayose said the smooth passage of the bill demonstrated a high level of efficiency on the part of the law makers.The Governor solicited the cooperation of entire citizens of the State in providing a peaceful and enabling environment for the successful implementation of the budget. He stressed that the goals of the budget was to sustain mutual confidence on the part of both the government and people of the State. Governor Fayose assured that the residential quarters of five (5) Judges in Ado-Ekiti would be ready for occupation as his administration had concluded plans to complete the landscaping and furnishing of the judges quarters before the end of the year. He said his administration fully realizes the importance of the judiciary as an arm of Government and would do everything possible to ensure that Judges in the State could stand tall among their colleagues from any part of the Federation. Responding, the State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebisi Omoleye commended Governor Fayose for the gesture and the giant strides his administration had She assured that Judges in the State Judiciary were fully committed to the smooth dispensation of Justice in the State. She explained that the remaining five (5) judges would receive their own cars before the end of April this year.
