Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose who made this known at a meeting with Local Government Chairman and Councilors in his office on Monday, 11th of July, 2005 explained that the team comprising top Local and State Government functionaries would inspect the Jigawa State Government’s Initiatives in the area of building technology, solar energy and borehole water among others. The Chief Executive said two officials from each of the 16 Local Governments in the State would be sponsored for 2 weeks training in Jigawa State to study the technology and who would in turn retrain some other staffs in their respective Local Government area. Dr. Fayose explained how locally-sourced materials were used in molding modern blocks expressed optimism that the technology, when acquired would provide employment opportunities for the unemployed as well as enhance cheap housing accommodation for the people. The Governor enumerated the advantages of the blocks over the conventional type saying they were bullet proof and sensitive to weather temperature among others. He stated the readiness of the Jigawa State Government to go into partnership with the Ekiti State Government with a view to assisting the latter. The Chief Executive said that 6 shops would be allotted to each of the 16 Local Government in the State from the Ajilosun Shopping Complex in Ado which the State Government was planning to sell at a unit cost of two hundred and fifty thousand naira only (N250,000.00) to interested buyers. Dr. Fayose commended the Local Government Chairman for their cooperation at tackling poverty ravaging the grassroots people and affirmed that they had done better than predecessors in office. EKITI NOMINATED DELEGATES FOR NATIONAL CONFABEkiti State has nominated six(6) delegates to represent her at the proposed National Political Reform Conference approved by the Federal Government. Dr (Mrs) Ibidayo Alebiosu from Ekiti North Constituency IIBriefing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday after a closed door meeting in the Governor’s Office, the leader of the Ekiti State contingents, Chief S.K. Babalola explained that the delegates were appointed through a popular democratic process by Elders in the State. The Elder in his statement explained that the parameters for the nomination of members included ability to represent very well, intellectual competence, historical antecedents and constituency consideration among others.Chief Babalola added that overall interest of Ekiti State was considered paramount while political party consideration was relegated to the background. He enumerated reforms to be considered by the National Reform Conference to include constitutional, electoral, judicial or legal reforms as well as civil service, police and prison reforms among several others.The former Presidential Adviser assured that Ekiti State delegates would be courageous and collaborate with counterparts from the South Western Zone on matters of common interest without necessary Jeopardizing the interest of the Ekiti people. Chief Babalola who expressed optimism that the National reform Conference would come out with recommendations capable of solving the Nation’s multifarious problems also expressed the belief that the federal Government would implement the recommendations.The National Reform Conference which is expected to take off the following month has three months to conclude its assignment. FAYOSE CHARGES FG ON ADO-OTUN-OMUARAN ROADEkiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has called on the Federal Government to commence full rehabilitation work on the Ado-Otun-Omuaran road without any further delay. The Governor made the plea on Thursday while inspecting the on-going reconstruction of the narrow bridge, notoriously called the “Odo-eje” bridge along Ado—Iworoko-Otun road. Dr. Fayose regretted that full reconstruction work is yet to commence on the road several months after N100 million was released for the reconstruction of the narrow bridges constructed by the colonial Government in the 1920s.The State Chief Security Officer lamented the poor condition of the road saying, it constitutes a great risk to the lives of the people. He recalled that the notorious “Odo-eje” bridge claimed three (3) lives of the University of Ado-Ekiti students on July 10,2004 which forced him to embark on a “save our soul” mission to President Olusegun Obasanjo the following day.Dr. Fayose who appreciated the urgent release of N100 million for the reconstruction of the narrow bridges expressed optimism tat Mr. President would listen to his plea again and ensure that full reconstruction work commences on the road soon. Noting that the rainy season affected the pace of work on the reconstruction of the bridges, Governor Fayose however expressed satisfaction with the quality of job done so far by the contractor handling the project. DR AYO FAYOSE (ALL NIGERIA) OPEN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDED The first edition of Ayo Fayose (All Nigeria) Open Tennis Championship had been concluded in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.. At the closing ceremony, the Vice-President of the Nigerian Tennis Association said that it was on record that the pragmatic government of Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose had the strong determination to emancipate the youths of Ekiti State through sports. Barely two months in office he said, the Executive Governor in spite of the State meagre resources sponsored the State contingent to the National Sports Festival. The renovation of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium to international standard, the organisation of the Governor Football competition and this first edition of Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose (All Nigeria) Open Tennis Championship were testimonies to the Government’s development efforts in sports. He lauded the contribution of the wife of the Executive Governor and Chairperson of Feyi Fayose Trust Foundation, Her Excellency Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose to the development of Tennis in Ekiti State. He noted that Her Excellency embarked through the foundation, organised tennis clinics. The first edition took place 2004 with the second edition slated for March 2005. He appealed to Government to embark on the construction of four Tennis courts at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium for the hosting of National and International tennis tournaments and the establishment of Ayodele Fayose tennis academy for the State. He also called for the sponsorship of teenage Tennis Players to the High performance Centre in ‘pretoria South African in April 2005. The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Otitoju, congratulated the organisers and the participants for the successful hosting of the Tournament. He pledged the continued support of Government for all sporting activities of the State. FORMAL NLC PRESIDENT COMMENDED GOV. FAYOSEThe former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Paschal Bafyau has commended the developmental efforts of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose. Comrade Bafyau gave the commendation during a chat with newsmen at a forum in Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government area.The former NLC boss said that Governor Ayodele Fayose has transformed Ekiti State adding that it is now getting a prominent position in the affairs of Nigeria, as a result of Fayose’s efforts. He said he was impressed by the air of confidence and relative friendliness with which the Governor relates with the grassroots people, saying it is an indication that he is loved by all and sundry. Comrade Bafyau commended the National Political Reform Conference facilitated by President Olusegun Obasanjo and described it as a first positive step towards reconciling various ethnic and political agitations by the Nigerians. Similarly, the Chairman, House Committee on Communications, Hon. Yemi Arokodare has commended Governor Ayodele Fayose’s performance in Ekiti State. Speaking with journalists at a social function in Omuo-Ekiti, Hon. Arokodare affirmed that Fayose’s achievement within his short stay in office was unprecedented, adding that he is proud to associate with his Government. The Federal Lawmaker who said that the best of Fayose is yet to come also commended the interactive meetings being held with Ekiti indigenes across the country by the governor, saying it is a worthy and commendable exercise. He noted that past attacks on the Fayose administration were largely due to communication gap between the Government and the governed, adding that the exercise has bridged the gap. Hon. Yemi Arokodare also disclosed that the MTN base stations at Ita-Ido, Aromoko and Ijero-Ekiti would be commissioned for the use before year 2005 Easter celebration. He as well hinted that Efon-Alaaye had already been covered by the MTN network and that V-Mobile was in the State and assured that Globacom network would soon be extended to the State via Ikere, Igede, Aromoko and Okemesi. The Federal Lawmaker stated that he is working with his colleagues in conjunction with Governor Ayodele Fayose to enhance the development of Ekiti State and the welfare of its citizenry. He hinted that the grassroots people would benefit from the rural electrification project of the Federal Government in 2005 while the rehabilitation of some Federal roads like Aramoko-Ijero--Ido road and Efon-Iwaji road among others had been |
