Governor FFTF Feedback Contact US | BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, BRIGADIER GENERAL ADETUNJI OLURIN (RTD) ON FRIDAY 13TH APRIL 2007 IN RESPECT OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS HOLDING ON 14TH AND 21ST APRIL, 2007. My good people of Ekiti State, It is important for me to address you on the forthcoming general elections starting with the Governorship and House of Assembly election holding on Saturday, 14th April 2007.2. We have come far enough in the preparation for the 2007 general elections and in the Emergency Rule which has changed the crisis situation prior to 19th October 2006. Everything has been done to prepare good ground for the general elections. This Administration created a level playing ground for all the political parties in the State for electioneering campaign, and you have all seen and heard the contestants on the field while presenting their manifestos. Now is the time to exercise your right to elect the leaders of your choice who will govern Ekiti State and the Nigerian Nation for the next four years.3. I wish to thank the leadership of all political parties and the good people of Ekiti for the peaceful conduct of the electioneering campaign except for some breaches in one or two locations, which the security operatives promptly handled.4. As we approach the general elections therefore, I wish to urge you again to conduct yourself orderly and exercise your civic responsibility in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).5. During the two election days, and in the stipulated period of voting, vehicular movement in any form will not be allowed throughout the State except those who are officially permitted to do so. Voters are enjoined to return to their residence immediately after casting their votes. There should be no loitering around the polling booths. Only those accredited and specified by INEC to conduct and monitor the election including accredited party agents will be allowed both at the polling stations and collating centres. Any one who acts contrary to the laid down guidelines in order to cause confusion at the polling centres will face the wrath of the law.6. I however, wish to assure you that adequate security arrangement has been made to ensure peaceful and successful election in the State. You should therefore conduct yourself orderly as security agents will ensure security of lives and property throughout the duration of the elections. We should strive to defend the peace and tranquility, we fought hard to achieve by ensuring peaceful, free and fair elections in Ekiti State.7. I pray that true leaders who will lead Ekiti to the next level of development will emerge in this general election. Long Live Ekiti State Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.8. Thank you and God bless you all. |
