| INTRODUCTION Having enjoyed autonomy as a full‑fledged Ministry from its inception in 1999, (after its bifurcation. from the erstwhile Ministry of Works, Transport, Lands and Housing) the Ministry of lands and Housing was transferred to become a Department under the Governor's Office by the Mr. Ayo Fayose led Civilian Administration. The step was taken to further enhance the performance of this vital organ of government particularly now that development activities had been stepped up by the present Civilian Administration.
The Department of Lands and Housing is a Social Services Oriented outfit. It is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating State governments Policies and Programmes on Land, Housing delivery, landed Properties Management and Physical development Controls. In addition, the department’s revenue generation profile through the various fees chargeable on its Services had continued to increase over the years. Thus it is me of the organs of government that is actively functional as regards internally generated revenue in the States
The department operates six functional departments at the Headquarters while extending threshold to the grass‑root via a network of area offices located across the 16 Local Government Headquarters in the State.
A summary of the function of the Department is an embodiment of the Schedule of duties of the Constituent departments outlined as follows.
i. Land acquisition and Management of Compensation matters. ii. Provision of site and Services in Government Residential and Industrial Estates, iii. Implementation of Provision of the 1978 Land‑Use Acts. iv. Provision of Survey Services and Maps in adequate quantum and thematic. v. Demarcation, of Intra State Boundaries as well as Liaison with the Federal Authority in the demarcation of Inter‑State Boundaries. vi. Responsible for Town & Country Planning and Urban Renewal Programmes. vii. Preparation of Layout, Master Plan for Urban Centres and Land Use Plans for Industrial, Residential or Agricultural Land. viii. Research into Housing Development Policies and Programmes. ix. Provision of Housing and loan to Civil Servants in the State.
From the array of duties and responsibilities of this all important departments it is evident that its contributions to the continual growth and development of this young State is paramount. Notable among the achievements recorded over the past four years are hereunder stated;
- Construction of two(2) Blocks of 15 Room Shopping Complex at Ajilosun, Ado‑Ekiti. - Survey of 7 roads under Construction in the Ado‑Ekiti, the State capital. - Purchase of landed properties for the State including: i. State Liaison Office at Wuse, Abuja. ii. Governor’s lodge at Asokoro Abuja. iii. Purchase of Crown-biz Hotel, now Government Guest House, Ado-Ekiti. iv. Purchase and Renovation of Fountain Court, Oju-Olobun VI Lagos State. v. Purchase of the defunct Federal Housing Estate, now renamed Fine Gate Estate Ilawe Road, Ado.

ESTATE DEVELOPMENT As part of Government's efforts at providing serviced plots to the various segments of the Society, a number of Estates were established in different locations throughout the State. Some of the existing ones in Ado-Ekiti (State Capital) and its environs are:- - Old Government Residential Area (GRA) Ado – Ekiti - Egbewa GRA (Phases 1-3), Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti. - Ijan Road GRA, Ado Ekiti - Iworoko Road, GRA Ado – Ekiti - Industrial Estate Ikere Ekiti. - Ikere Road GRA Ado – Ekiti.
