Determined to end the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Junior Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has set up a committee to look into the demands of the workers with a view to find ways of addressing them.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available to journalists today, that members of the committee, which was approved today, included the State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Silas Oyewole, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Gboyega Oyewole, Commissioner of Finance and economic Planning, prince Tunji Adeniyi, Head of Service, Mr. Femi Adewumi, the State’s Chief Registrar, Mr. I .O. Ogunyemi and Secretary, Judicial Service Commission, Mr. Segun Ajaja.

The committee are to look into the financial implication of the New Salary Structure for the judiciary staff in the State.

The New Salary Structure, if approved would increase the judicial workers’ wage bill by N95 million per month and N1.14 billion per annum.

Governor Oni’s spokesperson described insinuation by the opposition Action Congress (AC) that he sponsored the ongoing strike to prolong the sittings of ongoing Elections Petitions Tribunal, saying; “Only demented minds would claim that a nationwide strike by a union seeking better welfare for its members was sponsored by a governor in just one out of the 36 states in the country.”

The governor noted that it was sheer blackmail for anyone to assume that he could influence the judicial workers to go on strike, adding that; “The double faced activists in the AC are playing on peoples ignorance and the aim of these political cannibals is to continue to ridicule the State and its cherished values, while also bringing the judiciary and other institutions in Nigeria to disrepute.”

The Governor’s spokesperson said it was an irony that the self-styled human rights activists turned politicians in the AC, could turn their back on the workers in their time of need just to satisfy their selfish political interest.

He added; “It is ridiculous that the political hypocrites in the AC, who are purportedly asking for justice, are turning their back on JUSUN, which is asking for the implementation of the new consolidated Judiciary Salaries Structure (CONJUSS) for its members. Yet, these AC loud mouths claim that they are human rights activists and are out to better the lot of workers.”
