Ekiti State Governor, Engr Segun Oni has given the contractor handling the 16 kilometer – Ido –Ipere- Iludun road up to January next year to complete the project or face government sanctions.
Chief Press Secretary to
the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available to
journalists that Governor Oni, who gave the ultimatum while inspecting
the road project directed the contractor to write a letter of
undertaking that the road, would be delivered on schedule.
He berated the contractor for the slow pace of work on the road project, advising him to ensure that all the terms and specification of the contract are abided with in the execution of the project. Oni restated the commitment of his administration to complete all on-going road projects during the present dry season, adding that the construction work would commence on the Oye-Ayede-Iye-Otun road next year while a new bridge would be constructed on the Ero River at Ikun-Ekiti. He noted that having awarded the Otun-Iro-Osan-Ora road to a more serious contractor, the road would be extended beyond the Ekiti-Osun States boundary to Ora-Igbomina in Osun State. He disclosed that the new policy of his administration to extend new interstate roads initiated by his administration to next town in the neighbouring States was to promote commerce and cultural links between the state and her neighbours. Oni said new water pipelines would be laid to Osan to ensure uninterrupted water supply in the community once the new road is completed. |
