ONI PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR ADO POLY PDF Print E-mail

Ekiti State Governor, Engr Segun Oni has pledged that his administration would support the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti to realise its objective of becoming a degree awarding institution.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available to journalists today, that Governor Oni, who made the pledge  in Ado-Ekiti  while playing host to the Rector and Management of the  Federal Polytechnic  Ado-Ekiti also announced that his administration would provide a yearly subvention of N10 million for the institution.
While commending the management of the polytechnic for the high standard it has engendered for the institution over the years which has made it one of the best polytechnics  in the country , Governor Oni stressed the readiness of the State government  to collaborate with the institution in the area of  manpower  development.
He called on the management of the polytechnic to cooperate with the security agencies towards the eradication of cultism in their institution, adding that Government would not hesitate to prosecute any cult member apprehended in the state   .
Governor Oni, who congratulated the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Taiwo Akande on her appointment urged the staff and students of the institution to support her in her new assignment.
Earlier in her remarks, Akande commended  the contributions of the Oni-Administration to the  development of the institution.
She recalled that the immense contribution of the State government made it possible for the institution to successfully host the National Polytechnic Games in 2008.
Akande,  who said the  Management of the Polytechnic was vigorously pursuing the  upgrading the institution  into a degree awarding institution solicited the support of the State Government for the proposed  Women Development Programme aimed at encouraging more female students  to study Engineering courses.   
Meanwhile, the President of Conference of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (COPHSON) comrade  Mahmmud Lawal has Governor Oni for facilitating both human and infrastructural development of the State Education sector.
Comrade Lawal while speaking during a visit of the national executives of the association to the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, said the Oni administration was pivoting an educational programme that could be a benchmark for developing the Nigeria educational system, noting the sector has recorded unprecedented achievements since the Governor’s assumption of office.
Comrade Lawal affirmed that achievements such as the School Feeding Programme, the School Enterprise Programme, procurement of furniture for all schools in the State and clearing of the backlog of gratuities of retired teachers since 1993 has made the Sate a leading light in the country.
