The Governor of Ekiti State, Engr. Segun Oni is most interested in creating enduring legacies of developmental impacts on the people rather than playing to the gallery by engaging in a worthless publicity stunt in the name of commissioning projects, his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre has said.
“Many people have asked me why are we not been making commissioning of projects a fanfare and my answer has always been; “Governor Oni is a thorough bred professional, who will never play to the gallery or engage himself in attention seeking acts that bring governance down to the level of state jesters. “The governor is not someone, who will construct two kilometres of road and embark on 20 kilometres dance. He is not the type that would distribute N300,000 worth of free eye glasses and spend N3 million to advertise it. “What matters to him is quality service delivery, and that is exactly what he has been doing. “Today, you do not need anyone to tell the people of Iyemero, who have been shut out of civilization for many years before because of absence of good roads that they now have a stoned based-7 years warranty roads. Ditto the people of Iro that no longer need to go through Ondo State before getting to their town. “The question therefore is not about project commissioning. It is about reality of what we have been able to do to develop the State and improve the lives of our people. “It is about the close to 300 kilometres of roads already completed, the over 500 kilometres that are ongoing, the over 1,500 newly constructed classrooms and the over 1,000 renovated ones. It is also about, the 27,440 units of school furniture, the resuscitated Ikun Dairy Farm, Ekiti Kete Mass Transit Company, Fountain Motel, the new deputy governor’s office, secretariat, House of Assembly Complex, nine Government House Chalets being constructed and others buildings under construction. “Responsible governance to us is about the 11,150 eye glasses that we have distributed free to eye patients, the over 2,000 people operated upon free of charge and over N2 billion paid to pensioners owed since 1994 when Ekiti State was not even created, Ojo-Lanre said. He urged opposition politicians in the State to face the onerous task of repositioning their parties towards the 2011 elections, instead of bordering their minds on whether Governor Oni makes noise on projects commissioning or not, adding that; “most projects that were heavily publicized and loudly commissioned by previous governors in the state have not been able to stand the test of time.” |
