Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has lamented the death of the Attah of Aiyede Ekiti, Oba Adeleye Orisagbemi, Acting provost of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, Dr. Gabriel Olowoyo and their drivers, describing the death as shocking and devastating.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, in a statement said the governor was shocked when he received the news and was still finding it difficult to come to term with the reality of the gruesome incident.
“I am still finding it difficult to believe that this gruesome incident actually happened. I am yet to come to reality that the Attah, a peace loving and high ranking traditional ruler in the State has been cut down just like that!
“All that I can say for now is that we need to pray to God. We need to pray fervently for the repose of the souls of the revered monarch, the acting provost and others who lost their lives in this cruel manner. We need to go on our kneels and embark on prayers for three days so that God, in His infinite mercies will expose those behind criminal activities in the State in particular and Nigeria in general,” the governor said.
While condoling with the people of Aiyede and the State Council of Traditional Rulers for the death of the Attah, Ojo-Lanre said; “I express my heartfelt condolence for this irreparable loss and wish the families of the departed souls, the entire people of Aiyede-Ekiti and the State Council of Traditional Rulers the continued support and guidance of the Almighty God.
“This is tragic and it is only God that can condole our people.”
While calling on the police and other security agencies in the country to fish out those who carried out the dastardly act that led to the accident that claimed the lives of the monarch and others, Governor Oni said; “A situation where criminals are allowed to live among the people portends grave danger for our survival as a people and country.”
