| ONI HAILS MTN OVER DONATION OF DIALYSIS CENTRE TO UTH |

Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has expressed appreciation to the MTN Nigeria Foundation for choosing the University of Ado-Ekiti Teaching Hospital (UTH), Ado-Ekiti as one of the beneficiaries of the 12 Haemodialysis Centres to be established in hospitals in the country for the support of people living with kidney disease.

the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available to
journalists today, that Governor Oni, who described the gesture as
recognition of his administration’s commitment to qualitative health
care delivery in the State, said the State Government was ready to give
all necessary supports to MTN for the establishment and immediate
take-off of the centre.
Governor Oni, who noted that the Haemodialysis Centre when established would complement the government’s efforts at providing qualitative health care to the people of the State, disclosed that installation of equipment worth over N300 million is nearing completion at the UTH’s Opthalmology Centre. According to the governor, the Eye Centre is expected to cater for eye patients from the entire West Africa sub-region, adding that cataract patients would be attended to using the latest medical techniques and they would be discharged within 24 hours. “We are hopeful that the Eye Centre would begin operation by January, next year as installation of equipment is almost completed. “The Eye Centre, which would be the first of its kind in the entire Africa, would attract eye patients from all parts of Africa to Ekiti State. It will be capable of restoring the sight of partially and some totally blind patients through the use of latest technology. “Similar ones set up by the Cuban government in Venezuela and China had recorded huge success and had gone a long way to prove the prowess of the Caribbean nation in the treatment of eye defects and other eye related illnesses. “Our resolve to give priority attention to qualitative health care in the State is borne out of the fact that it is only a healthy people that can produce wealth,” Oni said. Calling on other corporate organizations, especially GSM operators to emulate the MTN by giving back to the society where they operate, Governor Oni said; “MTN has shown greater commitment to using part of its resources to uplift the society and I commend the organization. Other corporate organizations, especially GSM operators should also emulate MTN by giving back to the State.” |
