Ekiti State Governor, Engr.Segun Oni has charged the people
of the State to avoid actions that could enhance the spread of the Human Immune
Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in the State.
In a
statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Wale
Ojo-Lanre, Governor Oni, while receiving the World Bank awareness team on
HIV/AIDS led by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Femi Thomas in Ado Ekiti
explained that the HIV/AIDS scourge has led to the loss of vital manpower that
would have been of immense advantage to the socio-economic growth of the
country.
The Governor,
who affirmed that the state has the lowest HIV/AIDS prevalent rate in the
country said efforts, would further be geared towards the total eradication of
the scourge from the State.
“We should
never be careless. Anything that takes life out of our people and will not
allow us to enjoy the pride of our living must be faced with utmost
seriousness. Those who ought to become our governors and presidents tomorrow
should not die young,’’ Oni said.
He
implored all stakeholders to work in harmony with the government in order to
ensure that the scourge is totally eradicated from the State. |
