As parts of ways to launch African culture to the global scene, some Hollywood stars would soon converge on Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital to shoot films expected to promote African culture around the world, Special Adviser to the State Governor on Tourism and Hospitality Development, Mr. Moses Jolayemi has said. The film project is expected to cost N6 billion.
Some of the Hollywood stars include a Nigeria-born Britain-based artiste, Mr. Oris Erhuero; a Port-Harcourt, Rivers State-based American, Mr. Christopher Anthony; and Mr. Muyiwa Babatope, who was the leader of the delegation to the State.
Jolayemi said while briefing press men on the relevance of the film-making to the state’s economy at a press conference held at the Governor’s Office, that the measure would help to correct the misrepresentation of Africans to the outside world by the Western media.
The Special Adviser, who lamented the habit of the Western media, whom he said saw only negative events in Africa as newsworthy said film-making in Nigeria by international actors would help to correct some of these negative representations.
“It is high time we sold Africa, especially Nigeria, to the outside world, so that all the misrepresentations about Africa at the global scene will be corrected.
“This measure will help in the exchange of ideas between Nollywood and Hollywood stars as well as go a long way in widening the scope of their skills and exchange of ideas, apart from its positive effects on the economy,” Jolayemi said.
Also speaking, Erhuero, who had featured in some internationally-recognised movies, commended the State government and traditional rulers in the State for preserving the State’s cultural heritage, adding that; “if properly harnessed, this heritage is capable of turning around the fortunes of the country.”
He said his presence in the state and the country had corrected some bad impressions he earlier held about the country as presented in some foreign media, promising to make the State a tourists attraction and one of the best film-making sites in the country.
Erhuero, an indigene of Delta State, said the delegation would ensure the promotion of local artistes by involving them in some of the films that would be shot in the country before their departure.
In his own remark, Anthony, the Producer/Director of Kayfabe Films Limited, expressed his readiness to use his film to launder the image of the country which he said had been heavily damaged in the eyes of the foreigners, saying;  “Nigeria is not a bad place as we used to read and hear around the world. A lot of tourist attractions are in this country that if well positioned, could bring about the lost glories of this country by way of selling the country, through film-making, to the world.”
