GROUP SLAMS AFENIFERE OVER COMMENT ON EKITI TRIBUNAL JUDGMENT PDF Print E-mail

A coalition of non governmental organisations in Ekiti State, Movement for Peace and Good Governance in Ekiti (MOPEGO) has described Afenifere’s condemnation of the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld the election of the state governor, Engr. Segun Oni

as not only unfortunate but insulting, saying the pan Yoruba socio-political group should limit itself to Lagos politics where its financier is the de facto governor.

Rising from its meeting held in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, MOPEGO in a communique signed by its President, Dr. Michael Adekola said Afenifere has outlived its usefulness and should no longer be taken serious by Yoruba people.

“The position expressed by Afenifere on the tribunal judgment is not only unfortunate but riodiculous. We are however not surprised by the statement because the group has outlived its usefulness.

“Afenifere, as far as we are concerned can no longer speak for the Yorubas. It has been turned to the lapdog of a single individual whose only interest is the expansion of his political empire, a project that surffered another setback last Thursday with that judgment.

“This is the true reflection of the mindset of the people who populate the AC and the so called Afenifere. A group that has no leadership. A group that has no future. A group that has no belief in itself. A group that lacks quality people. People of sane minds should discontenance that group.  Afenifere and AC are not different from the anxient Roman Mob who were reputed to be fickle minded nd cammeleonis in their thinking nd their utteranvces. Afenifere and the AC hailed the tribunal judgment, which favoured AC on Wednesday, praising the tribunal the judiciary to the highest heavens but less than 24 hours after, the same set of people described the judgment of the same tribunal as traversty of justice, what a contradiction?

“The same Afenifere also hailed the judgment of the tribunal in Ondo State. Then, the judiciary did well. But in the case of Ekiti, Afenifere regarded the judgment as misplaced because it shattered the ambition of  its paymaster. This is laughable and we cannot but symphatise with the political jobbers that are being used by this political-empire-seeking former governor,”  MOPEGO said.

Calling on well meaning Yoruba leaders to treat with utmost urgency the establishment of a non-partisan organisation that will speak for the entire Yoruba nation, MOPEGO said, “It has become necessary that a non partisan organisation that will treat all Yorubas as one irrespective of their political and religious affiliation is put in place before these political jobbers that are hiding under the umbrella of Afenifere to promote their own selfish agenda set Yorubaland on fire.”

While congratulating Governor Oni and the entire people of Ekiti for the tribunal judgment, MOPEGO described the judgment as another milestone in the history of Ekiti State, saying; “Ekiti people will never be colonised again.”

“The judgment of last Thursday has further set Ekiti people free. The victory was that of the entire peace loving Ekiti people whom the financier of  Afenifere and other mushroom organisations sought to colonise, and we cannot but salute the courage of the Justice Usman Bwala led tribunal.”
