Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has called on religious leaders in the State to choose a date when all Ekiti sons and daughters would gather to give thanks to God for His blessings and mercies over the State and its people. Governor Oni who made the call in his remarks during the year 2009 Service of Carols and Lessons held at the Government House Grounds, Ado said, Ekiti people should give thanks to God for making it possible for them to have a state of their own and for His help in sustaining it in spite of all odds. He said people of Ekiti should be eternally grateful to God for answering their prayers with the creation of the state in 1996, adding that people from many ethnic and cultural entities in the country are still struggling for the emergence of their own states. Governor Oni prayed God to continue to bless the state with human and material resources required to take the state to the next level. Earlier in his meditation, the Co-Adjutor “Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Most Rev Felix Ajakaye called on Nigerians to move closer to God and always obey His words. He said if the people of Nigeria are more selfless many of the nation’s woes would become things of the past. Bishop Ajakaye who spoke through Rev. Father Ijasan called on Nigerians to learn from the humble beginning of Jesus Christ by shunning materialism and caring for the welfare of their fellow citizens. Governor Segun Oni, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yemisi Lawal, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Tunji Odeyemi, Acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Silas Oyewole, Former Acting Governor , Tope Ademiluyi and the Head of Service, Mr. Olufemi Adewumi were among prominent citizens who read bible lessons at the service. Others who read lessons at the colourful event include’ the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Mubo Bayode, Finance Commissoner, Mr Tunji Adeniyi and the Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adetunji Ajayi. |
