The Ekiti State Government is to employ the 56 midwives that recently graduated from the School of Midwifery, Ado.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Femi Thomas made this known at the 3rd convocation ceremony of the School held at the premises of Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, Ado.

Dr. Thomas said that the State Government is to take the step to encourage indigenes of the State to study Nursing and Midwifery in order to reduce maternal and child mortality.

The Commissioner who noted that the State runs one of the best health systems in the Country said efforts would be intensified t continually implement policies that will improve the health status of the people

He announced that two more Schools of Nursing would be established in the State while the School of Health of Technology in Ijero would be upgraded to College of Health Technology to enhance the status of graduates of the institution.

While commending the management and staff of the School of Midwifery Ado for its high academic standard, the Health Commissioner also noted that the School of Nursing in Ado had the best results in the last National Examinations conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Earlier, the State Director of Nursing Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Adeyanju had charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the School, stressing that they must strive to reduce maternal and child mortality through qualitative midwifery services.

The outgoing principal of the School, Mrs. Florence Adesokan who commended the State Government for improving the standard of the School called for the construction of additional hostels for the students and a befitting administration block.
