The Ekiti State Chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has urged the National leadership of the party to endorse the expulsion of the former Governor Ayodele Fayose from the party as recommended by its disciplinary committee rather than re-admitting hin into its fold. The State Chapter of the party, while describing the impeached former Governor as a misfit and disgrace to it going by his anti-party activities and his utterances since he returned from his self-exile declared that since he disappeared from the political scene of the state, there has been peace.
In a protest letter to the National Chairman of the party, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor which was signed by the duo of Rotarian Bola Bolu-Ojo and Hon. Kayode Babade, State Chairman and Secretary respectively, the party urged its National Working Committee, (NWC), not to contemplate of readmitting Mr. Fayose into the fold in the interest of the teaming supporters of the party who were tired of his style of politics of violence and thuggery. According to the party, a disciplinary committee set up by the State Working Committee over the alleged anti-party activities leveled against Mr. Fayose found him guilty and subsequently recommended that he should be expelled and as such the recommendation should be upheld. “The NWC should ratify his expulsion as decided at the state level, this is the only option that can bring peace to the party in Ekiti State as Fayose has polarized us in the party”, the party declared. It however insisted that Fayose could only be reconsidered “having been cleared of the murder and money laundering charges against him in the law courts”. While such consideration should also be on the further condition that “he should reapply through his ward and pledge total loyalty to the party and the government of Engr. Segun Oni. Some of the anti-party activities leveled against Fayose include: unguided utterances that the PDP and Governor Oni did not win the last general elections in the state, attending rallies organized by opposition parties, repainting some of his structures in Afao and Ado Ekiti to other political parties colours, financing and promoting opposition parties among others. Meanwhile, scores of party supporters from Ekiti State on Tuesday stormed the National Secretariat of the Party in Abuja to formally protest against the possible re-absorption of Mr. Fayose into the party as being speculated in some quarters. The party supporters armed with placards on various offences and anti-party activities of Fayose said that the impeached Governor has no place and role to play in the party again since the party was able to record victory in the state during the last general elections without him. They declared that the party as a decent and responsible entity would not have anything to do with a character like Fayose who “misbehaved, ruled like an emperor and unleashed a reign of terror on the good people of Ekiti State while in office”. According to the party members “no decent person and people of substance in Ekiti State is ready to associate with him at whatever level, he goes around with miscreants, jobless youths and hangers on”. The duo of Chief Oke and Hon. Lekan Adekanbi, State Deputy Chairman and State Publicity Secretary of the party respectively who addressed the rally reassured the leadership of the party that there was no division in Ekiti State PDP as being speculated by Mr. Fayose and his expired group. |
