A total of 1,787 deserving officers in the Ekiti State Civil Service have been promoted, Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Chief Kunle Ogunlade has said.
Speaking during the State Civil Service Commission’s Annual Get Together and Price giving ceremony on Friday, Chief Ogunlade noted that the commission has started interviews and documentations to ensure proper records of all eligible officers who were due for promotions.
The chairman, who also said the commission, was making necessary consultation with the office of the Head of Service to kick-start the conduct of promotion examination with effect from 2011 Promotions as is being done in most other states of the Federation, noted that full computerisation of the commission’s operations would be done this year.
“Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, permit me to use this medium
to refute the notion that the Civil Service Commission derives pleasure at delaying officers' promotions. I am glad to inform you that this Commission had been able to approve the promotion of one thousand, seven hundred and eighty-seven (1,787) officers within our short time in office.
“In 2008, four thousand (4,000) officers were recruited in the mass recruitment exercise, which was the first ever, in the history of Ekiti State as graciously approved by Mr. Governor.
“In 2009, fifty-one (51) officers were recruited into service while efforts are still on to recruit 16 physically challenged persons and give automatic employment to two of our sons who have distinguished themselves in the place of their primary assignment during their National Youth Service Year,” Ogunlade said.
The chairman, who also disclosed the institution of a cash award for the best junior and senior staff of the commission, said he instituted the award to boost the morale of the staff.
“The best junior and senior Staff shall be rewarded. Also the group responsible for cleaning the Commission's premises shall be rewarded. This is to encourage staff to give their best at all times,” he said.
Also speaking during the occasion, the State Head of Service, Mr. Olufemi Adewumi commended the commission for its efforts at maintaining discipline and professionalism in the civil service.
He pledge the support of his office to the commission, adding that; “My office and the commission are partners in progress and will continue to collaborate for the betterment of the workers.”
