| EKITI EYE CENTRE BEGINS OPERATION WITH ONE MONTH FREE TREATMENT |

The Ekiti State Ophthalmological Centre initiated will commence operation on Monday with one month free treatment of eye patients, the State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has said.
In a statement signed by
the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre,
Governor Oni, who made this known while playing host to 18 expatriate
ophthalmologists and other medical personnel from Cuba expected to
work at the Eye Centre noted that the arrival of medical personnel
marked the final step for the take-off of the Centre.
The Governor said the Eye Centre, which would be the first of its kind in the entire Continent of Africa and the fourth in the world is expected to be the launching pad of his administration’s Health Tourism Programme. He said the Ophthalmological Centre, which is designed to use the latest technology to provide succour for partially and totally blind patients from within Nigeria and the entire West African sub region would be a hub where some of the most complex eye surgeries would be performed. Oni disclosed that all equipment required at the Eye Centre had been imported; adding that installation of the equipment had been completed. He announced that patients would be treated free of charge in the first month of operation of the Ophthalmological Centre, adding that patients would thereafter pay for services at the health facility. He said a special fund had been set up to assist indigent patients patronizing the Eye Centre and other State – owned health institutions in the State. The Governor said efforts were in top gear to obtain work permits for the 18 expatriate Ophthalmologists and medical personnel from the appropriate Federal Government Agencies. Earlier the leader of the expatriate ophthalmologists and medical personnel from Cuba, Dr. Carlos Dupuy said they were fully prepared for the challenges ahead. He disclosed that the final batch of 15 Cuban expatriate ophthalmologists is expected to arrive in the country in a few days time. |
