| EKITI DISBURSES N168 MILLION SCHOLARSHIPS TO 709 STUDENTS |

Ekiti State Government has begun the disbursement of over N168 million as scholarship to 709 students from the State studying in tertiary institutions in and outside Nigeria.

to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement made available
to journalists in Ado-Ekiti that Governor Oni, while speaking at the
presentation of cheques to bursars of institutions of some of the
benefiting students in Ado-Ekiti, stressed that his administration
would continue to reward academic excellence by assisting brilliant
students in pursuance of their studies through the scholarship
scheme.
Oni, who spoke through his Education Commissioner, Dr. Rufus Ajayi disclosed that beneficiaries of the scheme in Senior Secondary Schools, Technical Colleges and Colleges of Education would each be given N40,000, students of Polytechnics and Universities, N60,000 while physically challenged students would enjoy automatic scholarship award of N100,000. He also disclosed that successful Masters Degree Students in Nigeria and abroad would each be given N200, 000 and N500, 000 respectively while those pursuing PhD programmes in Nigeria and abroad would each be given N750,000 and N1.5 milion respectively. The Governor said that Aviation Pilot students from Ekiti State in the in the Aviation College Zaria are each to receive N1 million while students who have brought honour to the State in the field of sports are to be given award according to their various levels. While calling on youths in the state to always strive for the best in their educational pursuits and various callings, he stressed that only students whose cumulative GPA was not less than Second Class Upper would be qualified for the scholarship award. Governor Oni, who later flagged off the 2009 scholarship awards with presentation of cheques totaling N47,010,000 to bursars of five tertiary institutions for disbursement to 251 students from Ekiti State in the various institutions. N3.7 million was disbursed to 73 lucky Ekiti students of College of Education, Ikere, N5.4 million to 85 beneficiaries from Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, N9.3 million to beneficiaries in the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD), N12.6 million to 30 beneficiaries in Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and N15 million to 41 beneficiaries in the University of Ibadan. Responding on behalf of the bursars of the tertiary institutions’ the Deputy Bursar of FUTA, Mr. Peter Akindele commended the Oni-Administration for the gesture. He assured that the institutions would commence disbursing the scholarship grants to the benefiting as soon as the cheques were cleared. |
