The Ekiti State House of Assembly has directed its committee on Education, Science and Technology to look into the remote causes of the recent crises at the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD) with a view to finding ways to prevent re-occurrence.

The directive was the fallout of a motion moved by Hon. Abiola Olowokere under the urgent matter of public importance.

Hon. Olowokere, who represents Ekiti South West Constituency 11 in the Assembly, observed that the situation in the University calls for urgent attention.

Lawmakers supported Hon. Olowokere on the need to probe the recent incident that led to the closure of the University in view of the importance of the institution to the state. They nominated two other members to support the committee in carrying out the assignment.

The two members are Hon. Churchill Adedipe and Hon. Ayodele Michael.

The committee, which was mandated to look into the alleged issue of the leadership tussle in the University, cultism among students and lecturers and the cadet issue, had two weeks for the assignment.

The deputy speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adeoti Saliu who stood in for the speaker charged the committee to carry out the assignment speedily.

Meanwhile, members of the assembly have condemned the recent arrest of the deputy speaker, Hon. Adeoti Saliu by security agents.

They noted that the SARS are meant to fight armed robbers and should concentrate on reducing robbery cases in the state.

The lawmakers described the action as an affront on the Assembly and called on the Inspector-General of Police to call his men to order.

The deputy speaker, Hon. Adeoti Saliu who thanked his colleagues for their support during the period, said he was not officially notified on his being declared wanted by the Police but only learnt of it on the pages of newspapers.

Hon. Adeoti who maintained his innocence on the accusation of  burning the Ido/Osi INEC office, during the re-run governorship election, said that his experience during the period had only strengthened him to keep protecting the interest of the people.
