Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has said that the State owned Television and Radio stations, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) shut down last Friday by the workers union would remain closed till further notice, adding that a major reorganisation of the broadcasting outfit would be carried out.
According to a statement from the office of the governor in Ado Ekiti today, Governor Oni said that the government would spare no effort in making sure that the two radio and television stations were repositioned to rank among the best in the country.
He disclosed that the State Accountant General had been directed to freeze all bank accounts of the station, saying; “All staff of the broadcasting outfit should stay away from their offices in their own interest..”
While promising that the stations would come out better after the reorganisation, Governor Oni said; “In line with our administration’s quest for excellence, we have commenced the process of restructuring the BSES with a view to putting it in a better shape to deliver world class services to the people of the State and Nigerians in general.
“The new BSES would be one where high premium is placed on professionalism and effective service delivery and we are not going to leave any stone unturned to achieve this.
“All hands must therefore be on deck to make sure that Ekiti State has Radio and Television stations that would rank among the best not only in Nigeria but in the entire world.”
While warning public servants in the State on the danger of allowing themselves to be used as tools by desperate politicians who are only desirous of holding the State down for their own selfish agenda, Governor Oni said the government would not sit back and allow a few disgruntled elements to throw the State into chaos.
His words; “We are aware of the high-wired politics that led to the crisis in the BSES and we wish to state that the government will not tolerate acts that are against the public service rules.
“It is therefore our advice that public servants in the State should shun partisan politics and desist from acts that are inimical to the development of the State.
